I have owned this great CD for a few months now,I play other CDs in my car but this one always finds it's way back as my most popular,(you know,the one that's sort of always there in the CD player)I just never get fed up of listening to it.

I first heard of GW when he played on Willie (Bill Wyman) and the Poor Boys album way back.I then found an LP in a second hand shop, "Geraint Watkins and the Dominators". Sadly not available on CD. This man has played alongside countless premier division musicians and most recently has been on tour with Bill Wyman's Rythym Kings. Known for his cajun and zydeco country feel [and a bit of 12 bar] music this album does not disappoint. The opening track, "Two Rocks" is played over "chapel organ" chords, lasts just over a minute and is a wonderful prelude to "Turn That Chicken Down" with a real New Orleans feel and dare I say it Art of Noise interlude? Before you jump in and buy, have a look at 'The Essential Johnny Cash' as the track listing on this 2002 'Man In Black: TVBO' collection is more similar to that CD than it is to the CD of the title 'Man In Black: TVBO' issued in 2001 (probably the U.S. version). This 2002 'Man In Black: TVBO' one has four more tracks than 'Essential', and differs towards the end between the two 'Man In Black: TVBO' collections. This latter part is not such a problem in my view as the earlier stuff is more essential listening. Unfortunately, this UK version of 'Man In Black: TVBO' from 2002 has the bleeped version of A Boy Named Sue, as detailed in 'The Essential Johnny Cash' reviews. Having been a fan of Neil Youngs for donkeys years, I can still play a number of his albums and still feel the power from his vocal talents that have seen him go from decade to decade with the thrill and excitement that only a true musician can offer. The decade album offers some very good tracks for an insite to young for those whom have yet to really listen to what he can offer. Old Man is basically my favourite Neil young song ever and that alone for me sets the standard of a true gifted master at work. Any neil young album for me is essential to a music collection, and this one paves the way for those who are looking to grasp a section of what Neil has to offer.

Being too young to remember the original Counting Crows boom in the Nineties, I approached this album with some trepidation, unsure what to expect. And it blew me away. It opens with Angels of the Silences, a very loud, powerful rock track (and not one of my favourites - I prefer the more acoustic version on Across a Wire). It moves straight on to Round Here, a track which took a while to grow on me, but when it did, it became one of my all time favourite songs, and remains so. Rain King is fairly upbeat and cheerful, and A Long December is slightly more wistful, whilst Hanginaround is more of a swing record - all three pretty good, if slightly unremarkable. This is an excellent introduction to the music of Steve Earle. Steve Earle is an amazing musician who almost defies classification – he has his roots in country music but his work shows strong rock influences, particularly influenced by the blue collar rock of Bruce Springsteen (in fact this album includes a couple of Springsteen covers). The album takes tracks from Earle’s first four albums (Guitar Town, Exit 0, Copperhead Road & The Hard Way) together with five live tracks from his live album Shut up and die like an Aviator. Personally I prefer later Earle (Jerusalem and El Corazon are probably my two favourite albums) but this is fantastic introduction to early Steve Earle. I have been a huge Lee Ann Womack fan since 2001 and she has done some great albums - but this is right up there with the best. For me, Last Call, Solitary Thinkin', Everything but Quits (with George Strait) and Story Of My Life are the pick of the bunch. This album represents everything that is good about Lee Ann Womack, a fine mix of songs reflecting hope and despair, the positive and the negative aspects of love! It has been a long wait for this, her latest album, but the album will not disappoint.

This is a real music lover's album. An Original, eclectic mix of bluesy, rocksy, folksy, jazzy tunes. At the time of performing some of the tracks Buffalo Springfield were playing at the Whisky in LA's Sunset Strip during its golden age when Jefferson Airplane and The Doors were sharing top billing (for a time Jim Morrison was obsessed with Mr Soul Man, written in response to police brutality in LA, singing it everywhere he went).
