Bob Dylan is one of those artists who elicit an almost spiritual devotion in his true fans and is constantly feted in the musical press( to a rather tedious degree in truth) but i can take him or leave him. There are Dylan albums i love just as there are Dylan albums whose critical acclaim leaves me rather baffled ( "Blonde on Blonde " for instance) Without doubt though the one Dylan album that i would listen to anytime anyplace is Nashville Skyline . Released in 1969 it is Dylan's 9th studio album and marked a significant departure for Dylan into true rustic country music , although he had already marked a transition into this genre with John Wesley Harding. A few dodgy tracks as to be expected on any album, however fantastic songs by the kinks, henry mancini and the police, cake, bob dylan, tindersticks, dominic chianese, elvis costello and casey chambers. A massive blend of different musical genres that truly is fantastic, only falls short of five stars due to several unremarkable tracks, a perfect companion to the series and a must buy for soprano fans and music fans alike

and they absolutely rocked. We loved the entire gig. They walk modestly onto stage and just started playing instead of the usual triumphalism you get from so many bands. They played almost all of the songs listed here, plus some Kiss numbers that I didnt know that well. Consummate musicians and modest too.

This star rating thing is funny old business, as I write Evil Urges has an overall rating of 3.5 stars, on the strength of some very negative reviews from MMJ fans comparing Evil Urges unfavorably with their previous output. I agree the album isn't as good as either Z or It Still Moves but in the grand scheme of things it ain't no two star album, nor is it naive or unintelligent. The title track, think Curtis Mayfield via Lambchop with a bit of Prog-Rock thrown-in for good measure, is worth the price of the admission alone.

This is definitely my favorite CD to listen to when going to bed, and I mean that in a good way. These songs are so gentle, and it's hard to believe Ryan Adams was like, what, 24 when he put this album out?

To anybody who already owns a compilation of Dolly's music for RCA, the track listing here has a familiar look to it with few exceptions. The exceptions are Please don't stop loving me, a sensational duet with Porter Wagoner not normally included on Dolly's solo compilations, To know him is to love him, from the first Trio album, and Why'd you come in here looking like that, from Dolly's period with Columbia. This UK edition includes a bonus track – a remix of Early morning breeze, a song that originally appeared on Dolly's Coat of many colors album (1971) and later on her Jolene album (1974). Troubadour has topped both the US country and pop charts and the title tack and I Saw God Today have made the country top ten. Both of these songs sound personal and reflective. The album demonstrates several styles including Make Her Fall In Love With Me Song (infectious Texas swing song), River of Love (laid backed Jimmy Buffett style), House of Cash (dramatic rock sound), Brothers of the Highway (trucker anthem) and If Heartaches Were Horses (soaring ballad). Despite the several different styles, George Strait has remained true to his style and standards with another great album.

I bet this was a fantastic live show - shame it sounds so flat on the CD! Unlike the other reviewer I came to this recording as a fan of Willie Nelson. I think Willie sounds pretty good on the whole - I just wish there was a bit more of him! His regular harmonica buddy, Mickey Raphael, is the real star of the show for me - his soloes shine above everyone else! The first two tracks, "Bright Lights, Big City", and Willie's own "Night Life", are the highlights for me. The lowest points being the two tracks associated with Hank Williams ("My Bucket's Got a Hole in It" and "Nobody's Business"), which, for me, don't seem to work in this jazz setting. All in all, it's not a terrible album but certainly not one that will much play from me!
