Coming after two of the best ever albums around, Stage Fright had a pretty tough task to pull off. However, the songs are good, sometimes great - Stage Fright is an all time classic - and the playing and singing are up to The Band's usual standards. I suspect what people don't like about this is that it has a darker, more troubled and personal feel than the previous records. In particular, the Shape I'm In, Stage Fright and The Rumour are quite different from the 'story-telling' songs which comprised most of The Band's material to date, with the odd exception such as Richard's Whispering Pines. Kenny is my absolute favourite country artist. He and John Denver are my two heroes and this album was splendid in every way. If you're a newbie to Kenny's music you should pick this one out as it has all the classics. Recommended to both young and mature audiences, you won't be disappointed.

There are a lot worse albums around than this easy-going collection of country & western versions of favourite Christmas songs. Opening with Trisha Yearwood's silky-smooth version of "The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting...)" it does lull anyone for whom C&W is not their favourite cup of meat into a false sense of security. Even Loretta Lynn does second cut, "White Christmas", no harm, and Lee Greenwood's "Let It Snow..." is as straight as a bean pole. Reba McEntire's twangy soprano on track four is where the serious stuff starts, and it doesn't look back from there on, with plenty of steel guitars and thick Nashville accents following. A nice CD with some great songs. One missing from the list however is 'Leaving On A Jet Plane' so if you want this and only plan on buying one John Denver CD then this isn't the one for you.

I have to thank Sid Smith in his Postcards From A Yellow Room blog, for pointing me in this direction. At the end of December, Sid reviewed his favourite albums released in 2007, and included Steve Stills' Just Roll Tape album. On the strength of Sid's earlier review I bought the CD and can report it is my favourite non-prog, non-jazz whatever, recording of 2007. Steve Stills' Just Roll Tape has languished, apparently forgotten, in the can for nearly 40 years but thanks goodness it has been discovered, remastered and now available for purchase. Since the early 1970s, most of us have been waiting for Stephen Stills to release anything approaching the quality and consistency of his 1970 solo LP or the first Manassas album in 1972. The Columbia offerings were poor fare and his contributions with CN&Y generally unremarkable. So, having waited so long, I ordered "Man Alive" not really expecting much. WOW! What a treat! Stills is back to his best. And I mean that. For 35 years the "Love The One You're With" album has been one of my all-time favourites. Even so - in all that time - to me it tailed off after "Go Back Home": the second side (other than "Black Queen") always became just a bit formulaic. What can I say about Volume One of the Nuggets compilation that hasn't already been said, this album after all is still one of the most important purchases I have ever made. The cheap price tag of this collection on its own is quite frankly daft, but with the array of quality songs from relatively unknown bands being quite literally immense on this compilation, as a starting point you can't really do much better. So in short, you have no excuse, you need to have this compilation in your collection now. Originally compiled and released in 1972 on the Sire Record label, by Elektra Records founder Jac Holzman with help from Lenny Kaye, Nuggets is a superb gateway to the 1960's Psychedelic and Garage scenes. Interesting musical arrangements good musicianship good lyrics and an unusual female voice all combine for one of the best albums I have heard in a long time. Not the sort of music to make the party rock but in the right setting its great.

Hurt and desire mapped by a country poet. Charlie Sexton sprinkles gorgeous guitar lines like gold dust. Making lazy comparisons with Neil Young or whomever is pointless beacause she really is out there on her own.

first seen this band on the ellen degeneres show, and was hooked, alittle bit country but better, this album is fantastic, pity more of us at this side of the Atlantic heard of them, they would make it here no problem, i would defo recommend this cd
