I like a variety of music from country through to thrash metal. Enjoy listening to Roy Harper and Bob Dylan so I thought I would give Neil Young a try. Knew nothing about this album before I bought it but the gravely, drawn, folk/rock melodies are simply excellent. I definetly will be purchasing more.

Brill gift for friends and family. Bought if for my old man last Xmas and he loved it...even caught him wathcing it again last week...10 months after I bought it. Great guest artists performing and Cash at his formidable best. A must buy for any Cash fans.

Faith Hill is a legend in country music, but I do find her to have a more `rock' take on country, which I love. You do also get the great slow, sad songs which are just so well written. In this greatest hits album you have some of the best songs faith has done, although there are some even better songs which failed to make it on to this cd, don't know why, but its still an amazing collection . Every song on here is great ( with the exception of `over the rainbow' never cared for that song). A classic collection.

A banal, irritating record. The lyrics are full of cliches, and the music is unexceptional. Only "Natural Beauty" rises above the dross.

Covers albums aren't always appreciated by those who are familiar with the songs already, but I love them as long as they are done well, as this one is. Indeed, I've heard a few great ones by country singers in recent years, notably Twang on a wire (Kate Campbell), The chain (Deana Carter), Those were the days (Dolly Parton) and Timeless (Martina McBride). I expected Patty's album to be of a similar quality, especially when I saw the track listing and so it has proved. Patty has selected songs from the fifties, sixties and seventies that particularly appealed to her. We are so lucky at the moment with bands like Calexico, Fleet Foxes, Lambchop and Willard Grant Conspiracy all releasing amazing alt. albums, but you can now add Giant Sand to that list as they are back with `proVISIONS' surely the best record of their career to date. With 13 songs it glides effortlessly along broadening the horizons of the genre with unusual panache and grace. For me the only criticism I have is that the first half of the album is slightly weaker than the second despite collaborations with Isobel Campbell, Neko and Papa M but that said it is still breathtaking if not a bit too traditional. Then comes the P J Harvey cover `Desperate kingdom of love' a track that couldn't fit a band better and from this point on the music ascends until the end leaving ... Read More:

For me, this is ryan's 3rd best album (after gold and easy tiger) yet i still give it 5 stars, that pretty much says it all (I'm going to keep writing anyway). For me this was the starting point of better things to come, it is in itself a very good album with songs like 'oh my sweet carolina' and 'come pick me up' being personal highlights, it was a very good debut solo album and probably only comes behind the other two albums mentioned because it is maybe a little harder to get into. I still listen to this album a lot and is very much a must own for any fan of Mr Adams, although with the amount of work this guy releases i understand it can be hard to keep up!

If you are a fan of John Mellencamp then Chris Knight is definately for you. Offering the same southern alt rock and country vibes in his music, lyrics and vocals as Mellencamp does, he is no less a light for it and should share equal billing in your music collection. Recommended.

This is a brilliant selection of songs by Johnny Cash and for a man in the twilight of his years there is just so much energy and sheer joy of music making coming through on this album. Just play 'Country Boy' to see what I mean and to confirm what a great idea it was to get Tom Petty et al to back the great man, who's voice still sounds so strong. Don Gibsons 'Sea of Heartbreak' was a favourite of mine when I was at school and its so good to hear it again. The Carter families 'The kneeling drunkards plea' drives along at a great pace and 'Meet me in heaven' is just so moving to those of us who have loved Johnny and June over the years and can imagine them walking those streets of gold.
