If you have found this then i imagine you are already familiar with the original...this is a longtime coming then- the album opens with 3 of arguably the best, and certainly most lively in this case, tracks on the original album, Chan Chan, De Camino A la Vereda, y El Cuarto de Tula--the energy and vibrancy from the off is incredible, it sends shivers down your spine. Ibrahim Ferrer is in absolutely amazing form, as are everyone else; you can tell they are all enjoying it immensely. And the enery and rapture from the audience only adds to it. Just buy it and see.

This 2-disc edition, as well as including a DVD, also has one exclusive bonus track that is not on the standard 1-disc edition. This is a new version of Miss You from the Insomniac album and when I say it's a new version, I mean that very literally. It's a duet with French singer Nadiya and the song has been completely re-worked both lyrically and musically. It's a brilliant new interpretation and if you like this then I would recommend tracking down the French release of Tired of Being Sorry (Laisse Le Destin L'Emporter) either as a single or on the French version of Insomniac where Enrique and Nadiya also worked together. This is the most thrilling, exciting sound I have heard in ages. What amazing talent and energy! I cannot stop playing it night or day, it is so uplifting. Even when I am not playing it, the rhythms and melodies keep coming into my head and I find myself nodding,tapping my feet or drumming with my fingers in tempo. The sound quality in general is absolutely superb, however, can anyone explain the small blip of interference between track 2 and 3 ? It only lasts a few seconds but I think this couple deserve perfection in the recording of their performance. I was also a little disappointed in the quality of the DVD production. In spite of these criticisms I heartily recommend this album and still give it five stars!

When the lights came up in the cinema where we saw Wim Wenders' movie of the same name, we saw grown adults weeping. This is more than a band, it is a musical phenomenon. Such a synergy is rare in this day and age, and the vibe on this album is just fantastic. Buy it and weep, because you have missed your chance to ever see or hear Ruben Gonzales, Compay Segundo or Ibrahim Ferrer playing live with the band again, but the remaining members still tour and the band is organic, progressing through the years with younger, equally talented musicians, so if you see a gig advertised and can get to it, don't miss it! This album has changed many lives...

I heard this album, whilst on holiday in Girona (Spain). It is a must buy album. Even if you can't understand Spanish,she has a wonderful voice. It has a contemporary-jazzy sound without losing the traditional Espanic feeling. thanks for readind DaveyT.

Some real gems here. Granted some of the tracks have been released on other compilation records (namely Gilles Peterson's; indeed Forge used to DJ with Gilles back in the eighties; check out their excellent Dingwalls record) but that's because the songs are excellent. There's a nice mix of funk, jazz, folk and soul here that is sure to make your average party goer stand up, take notice, and applaud your unique and well flavoured musical taste.

Please, Please buy this. This is a masterwork of genius. Never have I heard someone with such a deep understanding of what music should be. Jorge is a adpetly at home in so many styles. "America do Norte" and "Trabalhador" are both nods to the influence of North American percussion, both styles fitted effortless into the Jorge plan - sprightly, melodic - this man can make a violin sound funky. "Burguesinha" is a beautiful pop-samba - Jorge's understanding of the transecendent chanted chorus in evidence. This track will have you humming along, tapping your toes. My favourite track is the show-stoppingly brilliant "Mina do Condominio" - the way the lyrics just patter around the passionate chorus with that beautiful mandolin - one of the great tracks you're ... i have just recieved this cd and it is wonderful. for the price it is a bargain not to be missed. it is full of life and passion and everything you would expect of true flamenco music. it doesnt matter if this is your first introduction to flamenco or you are a seasoned fan, you will enjoy this album.

To save space and time I'll say that Juan Mobili's review of this album is spot on, but I have few things to add. Firstly Lila's live show is excellent. The next time she and her fine band la Misteriosa are on tour do whatever you can to go to see them. The band arrangements are very strong too, beautifully mixing elements of many styles and traditions in a way that perfectly complements Lila's singing. My personal favourite on this disc is Ojo de Culebra, her duet with La Mari of the Spanish nuevo flamenco band Chambao.
