I can not take this cd out of my car. Every track is dancable. The African vocals are just pure Salsa joy on the ear. If you love dancing Salsa you must have this cd!!

The sleeve note claims this is a salsa album made by Scottish musicians who love Latin music and by South American musicians who love Scotland. It's a love affair to be encouraged. The rhythms will be familiar to all who have bought Santana's last couple of albums. The instruments include horns (sax, trumpets, trombone) guitar, fiddle, percussion, piano, accordion and, yes, bagpipes. Pipes have rarely sounded less military, or less highland. A reminder that pipes are international, not principally Scottish. They don't dominate here, but provide a texture that complements the horns. I bought the original album on cd about 4 years ago. I bought it after hearing Bebel sing 'Samba e Amor' on 'Later With Jools Holland.' Rarely do I buy albums on the basis of one song but it was one of my most treasured albums...Until a friend lost it. That caused me to replace it, this time with the double cd edition with the remixes. For me, the original set of songs still shines through. Every song has something that, in time will grow on you,(if you don't appreciate it initially) though when Bebel sings in English, I feel some of that passion is lost. Having said that, 'August Day Song' is still a little gem and 'Close Your Eyes' gets the booty shaking. As far as the remixes go, the Buffalo bunch version of 'Close Your Eyes' could ... Read More:

This is a gem of a disc. I don't recall seeing any reviews at the time of it's release but it deserves recognition as a milestone in Potter's development. From a glance at the track listing, which namechecks Potter's saxophone forefathers, one could be forgiven for thinking one was in for a tribute album or, worse still, a pastiche. However. what Potter achieves is an impressive collection of compositions which doff their cap in the direction of the great players to whom he owes the debt of Gratitude of the title, but on which (with the possible exception of Euridice, for Wayne Shorter) he has never sounded more like himself. This varied collection of songs from Cape Verdean musicians is one of my all time favourites. It goes wonderfully with the setting sun on a warm summer evening, but can give you that same feeling when the sky is grey and the rain is falling. Enjoy with ice and a slice of lemon!

I bought this album and it will not play on my CD player and when I put in in my PC it installed software without telling me. This type of CD should be avoided and Amazon should warn people about these defective CD's. I have sent it back!
