I studied in Germany and in Brazil, learned Spanish in school and at university - and visited Spain and the Spanish islands (Mallorca, Gran Canaria, Tenerife) several times. Paco de Lucia's Flamenco music reminds me on one of the best times in my life! I visited many interesting places all over Spain, met a lot of very friendly people, fell in love to very beautiful Spanish women, learned "Espanol", ... and fell in love to Spanish music! I loved Dove Ce Musica, am entralled by Stilelibero, but this is the one which says it all about the vast scope of his talent. No song sounds the same as another and each one a gem. Fantastic!

Very good performing by Joanna, and such a lovely, no inspired selection of pieces! I really love this CD - BUT, the production quality really lets this down!!!! Don't listen to this CD with headphones - this is not overly critical as it really interferes with the enjoyment of this otherwise excellent CD. just a plea to record labels to get the recording right to do justice to the performer, and also the music!

Chambao apparently is a word for a tent used on the beach around Malaga. The implication is sun, sea, and gentle partying; not out in a harsh burning sun, but in a more comfortable, warm, protective space. Not a flat out rave, but a chilled event with friends and relaxation. This is pefect music for that context. It's borrows heavily on traditional flamenco, keeps rythm, interest and passion, but takes off some of the jarring rough edges to make creative, interesting and fresh music with universal appeal Hard to beat!

Much better than Mambo Sinuendo and Buena Vista SC A really mature record, this will go down as one of my favourite records. Ry Cooder and Manuel Galban play brilliantly together in sharp contrast (I think Manuel Galban has the edge) Ferrier best of all... a classic.

well well the boys are still going and the rock and metal stylings of the last few albums have been abandonned in exchange for ska and reggae. and it works although it takes a few listens to sink in. thatsaid though this the first cypress album in a long time that has got some terrible songs on it stuff like the ganja bus is just terrible i mean it makes you wanna cringe but then again theres songs like whats your number? and once again and another boddy drops where the beats flow so smoothly you find yourself tapping your foot and you dont even realise. overall not bad but they need another top album soon.

The Beginners Guide series is garnering a reputation for collecting quality tunes in a triple CD set...and BGT Cuba is no exception. The three CDs each cover a different style... CD1 "Classic Cuba' has all the Buena Vista style artists: Compay Segundo, Ibrahim Ferrer, Cunbanismo etc. and there are a few classic tunes that many will know from other sources, but the quality bar is high, with most tunes displaying the easy languid grooves and harmonies we have come to know and love. *** CD2 "Jazzy Cuba' ...says it all...the cuban grooves being a little more subservient to solos and spotlights on individual talents...still exuberant and danceable, but perhaps less of interest to DJs. I discovered Juanes last year after buying La Camisa Negra and Mi Sangre, which started me trying to track down his previous albums. I've been pleased to find that both Fijate Bien and Un Dia Normal are just as good. My favourite tracks on here are Podemos Hacernos Dano, Destino, Fijate Bien, Sonador and Para Que, although it's tough 'cos they're all really good songs, several with a serious point to make about the state of his country (he's from Colombia). I'd recommend this album to anyone who likes rock/indie style music and if you don't understand Spanish, albums like this may well make you want to learn!

Most of this c.d is from the mid/late 60's when Mongo was heavily into producing funkier/groove orientated versions of Latin classics and pop tunes. There are some excellent versions of "Green onions" and "Dock of the bay" and what best of package would be complete without the classic "Watermelon man" and "Afro blue" ? Also included are couple of vocal tracks "La bamba" which i am sure you all know and the very disco/danceable "We got Latin soul" which is all out commercialism but enjoyable nevertheless. With the inclusion of 5 bonus tracks it rounds out this c.d to about 78 mins which gives excellent value and a good insite into the afro/funk/pop stage of Mongo's career.
