well well the boys are still going and the rock and metal stylings of the last few albums have been abandonned in exchange for ska and reggae. and it works although it takes a few listens to sink in. thatsaid though this the first cypress album in a long time that has got some terrible songs on it stuff like the ganja bus is just terrible i mean it makes you wanna cringe but then again theres songs like whats your number? and once again and another boddy drops where the beats flow so smoothly you find yourself tapping your foot and you dont even realise. overall not bad but they need another top album soon.

The collection of tangos on this double CD is good but far from the loveliest or best or greatest as the title suggests. There are some highly unusual tracks on them such as Fuga Y Misterio played by 12 cellos and hence the 2 stars. I have played tracks from this compilation for my dance people and have not found a great deal of enthusiasm for them.

This is an album I've had in my car for 2 years and it refuses to come out. It is an eclectic collection of songs from the gritty streets of Farmington. Doing a compilation of this kind where there are many many great songs from the show is always going to be an impossible task. The producers have tried to accommodate songs across the spectrum and they've done a fairly good job. 4 stars because I was highly disappointed by the X-Ecutioners remix of the intro track.

The Mavericks' reunion album, after a four year break and a patchy solo album from Raul Malo, turns out to be a bit of a disappointment for anyone who loved the Cuban-rock-latin influenced "Trampoline" or the humour and Tex-Mex tinged "Music For All Occasions". On first listenings it is very derivative of all four main albums that brought them fame, and a watered-down derivative at that. Lead track, "I Want To Know" has the characteristic Maverick twangy guitar and beat, but it's a twee pop song worthy of a place on an Archies album. "In My Dreams" has the "What A Crying Shame" intro and similar tune. "Shine A Light" and "San Jose" have chugging latin beats; "Because Of You" is an old-fashioned 'broken hearts' country & western honky ... Read More:

I've watched to film a couple of times and I have to say it grows on you - perhaps it just needs more thoughful watching than most films. It's definately not the sort of film hollywood makes - muchh too european and all the better for that. It also helps that Sally Potter is a dancer as well as director (and in this one of the principle actors). Tango takes a lot of understanding - it's history, context in argentina, and the modern adoption throughout the world like no other dance. On this CD there are a variety of interesting tracks - and as they were used for a dance orientated film, mostly danceable. Try renting the film Tango Lesson [1997]and watching a couple of times - I think you'll find you want this ... Read More:
