Finally one good recording of the complete cycle of the Bachianas Brasileiras . The recording conducted by the author was the best recording available , but Villa - Lobos wasn't a good conductor .The musicality is really good, but the orchestra sounds bad in some moments and the sound is very old. After the recordings of several conductors sometimes good sometimes bad, we have here the entire cycle very well played
Bachianas Nº 1 , for cellos , was at the beginning one homage to the Preludes And Fugues by Bach, but the author wrote after the first movement. From the Preludes and Fugue now we have the structure of a Concerto. The first Bachianas is the only one condcted by Andrew Mogrelia, since Kenneth Schermerhorn died before the recording ... Read More:

I loved "Spain", but had thought that the jazz-flamenco fusion in "Spain again" would only repeat the first. However, this is a new genre with huge potential for change and innovation, as "Spain again" shows. This time Tomatito and Camilo (joined Juan Luis Guerra) have taken Argentinean Tango, plus jazz and flamenco standards, and given them the fusion treatment. The result is an exhilarating, yet sensitive flamenco jazz. It leaves me crying out for more.

Unlike some Iberian critics, I don't think this is 'flamenco-punk' (or the other way about).
For one thing, Bebe hails from Extremadura, not Andaluzia - and for Extremadura this pop-rock-ska-folk *is* a breakthrough. I don't write *was* because her record is still selling strong in all of Spain and the next step will be Hispano-America (and France, curiously enough).
My favourite song is "Cuindandote" a very understated, restrained love song. "Ella" (which was the 2nd single) also speaks to me. No, I'm not a battered wife (I'd like her mega-hit "Malo" better if I were, I suspect) not even a "She" - but "Ella" is really about someone with a low self-esteem and limited horizons; both imposed ... To anyone who tells me that classical music is an "antique" medium, I show them the Kronos Quartet. I disagree slightly with yer man's other review here who suggests tghat this is a novelty record - of course it's not! it's brimming with blistering summer, salty fire and sharp lime spirits, fast paced stomping and life. Life, life it's so full of it it's exploding like good humoured fireworks.

I've never had such good fun listening to a quartet, and can you belive my viola playing mother bought this for me for my birthday. She really must have been thinking it was someone else!

This CD is a real joy. Buy it, and listen to it on a blistering summer's day.

368.Ricky Martin by: Ricky Martin

Music : Ricky Martin
Ricky Martin's first english language album was probably the album that started the explosin in Latin Music in the late 90's and what an album it is. It starts off superbly with 'Livin' La Vida Loca' which is still one of the best latin/dance tracks ever released and sounds just as fresh now as it did then. Anybody expecting the album to be full of songs in the same style as 'Livin' La Vida Loca' may at first find themselves a little disapointed as there are lot of ballads and mid-tempo tracks also present but all of these are done very well. My favourites being 'Private Emotion' and 'She's All I Ever Had'. Strangely, the only track on the album i don't really like is 'Be Careful' his duet with Madonna which just sounds out of place.

370.Lagrimas Negras by: Bebo Valdes & Diego El Cigala
January 01, 2004
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Music : Lagrimas Negras
This beautiful CD features the unlikely pairing of the octogenarian Cuban piano player, Bebo Valdes, with Flamenco singer Dielgo "El Cigala", the rightful successor to Camaron. The results are sublime, sensuous, deeply beautiful. El Cigala's passionate Flamenco vocals backed by Bebo's bewitching piano playing. Not to be missed.
