Fans of the film will not be disappointed, the soundtrack manages to capture the essence of the film, throwing in aspects of Funk and Latin beats that not only make you want to see the film again but in my case created a huge desire to travel to Brazil itself, such is the passion and energy of the score. In a nutshell...if you loved the film, you will love the soundtrack

Astrud Gilberto made a name for herself when she fortuitously sang on the 1964 US Top 5 smash "The Girl From Ipanema". This association with jazz and bossa nova godfathers brought her a lot of flak from critics quick to dismiss her "artless singing style" and "limited vocal range". However, to the music listeners who succumbed to her vocal charms - and I sure am one of them - the most important aspect of Astrud Gilberto's singing was her ability to get the most out of everything song she performed. In Chanchullo we see the return of Ruben Gonzalez back to Buena Vista form. With his fantastically articulate and innovative piano improvisation, Ruben is at his very best! This album has definite appeal to Buena Vista Social club aficionados, tracks such as Choco's Guajira reminiscent of Candela and Chan Chan. The immersive Latin rhythm section brings out the magic of Gonzalez and I guarantee it will make you move! It is also impossible to find a better example of sheer brilliance, when it comes to Latin/jazz piano. I would recommend this CD to absolutely everyone!

For those who are not familiar with traditional Tango nor heard any of the current representatives of its electro-forms, it worth knowing that Gustavo Santaolalla's production and leadership as well as Daniel Melingo's voice in a couple of tracks, makes this album something you ought to explore immediately. Just like it happened with Astor Piazzolla--I'm comparing reactions to new versions of a traditional musical form, not suggesting that these guys are as revolutionary nor seminal as the great Piazzolla--any innovations performed on a genre as beloved like Tango will breed as many critics as new worshippers. It's inevitable, that's some artist began to fade in the radio airwaves, but not in the memory of true fans. Her highly catchy songs keep listeners dancing for a long time ("1,2,3", "Rhythm Is Gonna Get You"). Her ballads are very soulful, sung very expressively ("Don't Wanna Lose You"). Every track on this album is timeless. However, she never writes or performs a bad song. She proves that with or without The Miami Sound Machine, she excels at music beautifully. She never loses a beat for a second. Accompanying her great music is a beautiful voice that blends perfectly with the theme regardless of what it is.

I heard this music on myspace and instantly fell in love with it. When I read the review below, it quite saddened me and I felt this music needed to be spoken well off. It is often a shame when people believe that their opinions are the only ones that matter and everyone else may as not exist, to the level that they have to dehumanise the efforts and artistic expressions of other human beings....(artistic fascism.) There is nothing more inhumane than this view. To me, this music IS "angelic" and I'm not ashamed to admit it. I admit that it might not be for everyone. I read some of the reviews, and went ahead and bought the album. Its the best thing I ever did! The C.D. has been played non stop in the car, at work, and at home. Its even playing on my laptop right now, as I am writing this review. Some of the tracks are so upbeat you just can't help dancing to them. The slower tracks are just as brilliant! Haven't a clue what he is singing about (only been learning spanish for a short while), which shows that the music itself is fantastic. I love it! Can you tell?!
