Although the first two tracks are the highlight of this album, they aren't the only good things here. Lyrics are poingnant and moving. Hey World is a great track. And while i'm not sure it's as good as hist last studio album... it's still better than most other albums out at the moment. if you like Franti - it's a must! Be strong for me, i'lAll Rebel Rockers: +DVDl be strong for you.

This compilation is way outside the usual area covered by reggae reissue label Blood & Fire, i.e. 1970s roots & dub. Apart from the first track, which is not a cover but a wicked slice of organ-led instrumental funk, the album entirely consists of reggae cover versions of classic soul tunes. Now this could in consequence have been a really rubbish compilation, because nearly every Jamaican singer or vocal group has covered numerous soul songs, often perfunctorily, but the quality control here is of the highest order, with no tracks less than very good. Stand out tracks on such a consistent album are hard to find, but personal faves include both the Ken Boothe tunes (his superb take on Ain't No Sunshine is as good a version ... Read More:

Have to agree with the first reviewer regarding the sloppy way this has been put together. I've dozens of Heartbeat CD's and while I'm loathe to criticse people that do such valuable work, this is not the first time a rather slip-shod attitude has been apparent on an re-issue. What makes the whole 'Jah Promise' episode even more bizzare is that there is a perfectly good take of it issued on 'The Best of Studio One' last year by......Heartbeat! Anyway, if it needs saying 5 out of 5 for the music (any reggae fan needs this LP), considerably less for this re-issue. However, if you don't have this record already, it is still worth a purchase, as the music is so great.

This, to my mind, is the best of the solo albums by the extraordinary Shakti violinist. On this disc he plays long traditional raga forms rather than attempting to pull off cute, western style pop tunes, as he does on some of the other releases. I've had this disc for many years now and it is a habit of mine to put it on really loud on hot summer evenings, and have it drifting magically out into the garden. Of all his albums, even those recorded with Shakti, this is the one where you come to appreciate what a truly astonishing violinist he is, in my humble opinion untouched by any western violinist I know. Yet this album is not just about virtuousity. Like all good raga it builds very slowly from rich soulful beginnings, moving very gradually from serenity ... Read More:
