Unlike most of the other reviewers, I was not familiar with the music of Shankar or Glass before deciding to buy this album on the strength of the most cursory hearing of some of the tracks. Every now and again I just like to treat my ears to something different. And believe me, this is something very, very different. It is simply exciting music, beautifully played, which will grasp at your very soul. Go on. Treat your ears. They deserve it!

This is definitely one of the most original albums produced in the history of UK urban music and for this reason I don't think it received the wider exposure it deserved. It's an comforting deep bassy sound, which is almost unique in my experience, one which completely mesmerized me 8 years ago, and still does today. I don't think he ever really improved on this personally, though others may feel the album is a bit disjointed. I have to say the second track 'dem phonies' does my head in and is probably worth 1 star at best, but the rest is fantastic, especially 'Inna', 'Strange Behaviour', 'Motion 5000' and 'Oh yeah'. Absolutely fab. In my opinion best tracks are Step up and Bout it but there ain't a bad track on this album! Petey Pablo's tune is amazing too. You have to watch the movie then check this soundtrack out! Well worth the money. When you listen to this album it will seriously make you get up,take notice and dance!!! LOVE IT! x

If you have been a long term roots reggae fan like me, you will know the vast array of material available in the market place doesn't always match the billing. This box set however, does exactly what it says on the tin and more. If you like your reggae crackly and rare, this is the one for you. New Town Sound limited steal the show with the bassiest, gruffest tune you will ever hear, however, most tracks on each of the 3 cds are classic rarities. Buy it, and don't look back, this is the real deal for those like the revival style.

Although the first two tracks are the highlight of this album, they aren't the only good things here. Lyrics are poingnant and moving. Hey World is a great track. And while i'm not sure it's as good as hist last studio album... it's still better than most other albums out at the moment. if you like Franti - it's a must! Be strong for me, i'lAll Rebel Rockers: +DVDl be strong for you.

Amongst my collection of approx 15 Ravi Shankar cd's, 'a morning raga, an evening raga' ranks as one of the best. Originally released in 1968, (with the same lineup as his groundbreaking and breathtaking performance at the Monterey Pop Festival* from the previous year: Ravi (sitar) Ustad alla Rakha (Tabla) and Kamala Chakravarti (Tamboura)), these 2 lengthy ragas find Ravi and Alla Rakha at the absolute peak of their powers. Like the best of Ravi's work, the ragas are extremely moving and perfectly executed. Notably, the 2nd piece, 'raga mishra piloo' is absolutely beautiful and sublime in parts....it contains fantastic interplay between the sitar and tabla, the sounds produced convey every emotion....the musicianship is pure genius.. With Greensleeves Records celebrating 25 years it seems fitting to release their best work at a great price. I bought 'Gregory Isaacs - Red Roses for Gregory', 'Augustus Pablo - Original Rockers' and this and it is my pick of the three. With Eeks great DJing and funny lyrics (especially Track 7 'Georgie Porgie'!) this makes for great listening. If, like me you want to buy some Dub CDs but don't know where to start then you can't go far wrong with buying a selection of 'Greensleeves Reggae Classics' and enjoying them.

Listening to this cd takes me somewhere very special. It's as if some kind of bliss comes over me and I feel carried away... It's absolutely amazing and I plan to hear other cds by Snatam to see if the effect is the same.
