Right, the first thing that some of you reading this review may want to consider is the fact that I actually think "HardCore" was Kim's weakest album. So, if you're looking for that gangsta that she brought on "HardCore" you might wanna check for either "Naked Truth" or "Ms. G.O.A.T" - her new mixtape. This album has a great variety of club bangers, street hits and pop-friendly tunes. Songs like "The Jump Off" [produced by Timbaland] are representative of the more pop/club type songs on this album. Sometimes she delivers this genre brilliantly well (for example "The Magic Stick" featuring 50 Cent) and sometimes NOT so well [more notably "Shake Ya Bum Bum"] However, Kim definitely delivers with this album. This is one of the best CDs I own now. I have tried for years to get it and now I just chill to the sound of Hey Lover, Doin it and the ultimate tune Loungin... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

This has to be Lil Kims worst offering so far . The album relies too much on the " Shock " of bad language , and too many annoying skits . It's getting old hat now . Apart from " Lighters up " , the rest of the album is instantly forgetable . Save your money and buy " The Notorious Kim " , or " Hardcore " .

Too often I've read over-zealous reviews on here and have been disappointed after buying and playing the cd a few times. I agree with the person above: the same thing happened to me a couple of years ago when I originally picked up 'The Cold Vein' - I foolishly left the cd languishing at the bottom of my pile after first listening 'cos I couldn't get my head around the production/beats or even the rhymes. It pains me now to think how long it took me to give Can Ox another spin. Put simply, this is without a doubt one of the best albums I own, certainly the best hip-hop album. Whilst the other tracks are far from fillers, this debut album is allabout 'Public Enemy #1' which established the atonal sound of laterclassics such as 'Welcome to the Terrordome' with it's funk/jazz guitarquick stabs rather than longer, melodic riffs.

A standout album in the PE collection, with the live drum sounds adding an extra dimension not found on other hip-hop albums. Compared to 'Nation..' and 'Fear of a black planet', this album stands up well, offering the listener the traditional PE values over funky sample-led grooves. Chuck D is on top form here as well as a more prominent contribution from Flava Flav than on previous releases. PE remain a beacon of awareness in a sea of misinformation. 5 stars, no doubt.

Unfortunately, in being so experimental and insisting on putting irritating and extended skits between every track - and sometimes between every skit - they produced very inconsistent music whose rhythm is destroyed further by the aforementioned skits. Bought this as I bought 'Three Feet High and Rising' on release and, similarly, was disappointed with it. Again, with the exception of one or two tunes.
