Oh Gilbert! I really want to buy this CD. I love your music, and this seems like a great collection. BUT ... I won't buy it while it has such a tacky title and awful artwork. CDs are meant to bring pleasure to the listener and look great on the rack, but I'd have to hide this one in a dark cellar, as I'd be embarassed to have it on display. Please re-package it, and I promise you I'll be the first to buy a copy.

this album has 50 great tracks from one of Ireland's greatest singers Val Doonican. I would strongly recommend this album to anyone who is a fan of Val.

..is the only word for this album. I have never heard such a pure voice - you may have heard the songs before but you have never heard them sung like this. Eva's voice was unique - how very sad that the only video in existence of her singing is some amatuer footage taken at Blues Alley - where some of these tracks were recorded. If you can listen to "Autumn Leaves" without a lump in your throat - then you have no soul my friend.

In a recent BBC3 "CD Review" broadcast, Alexandra Wilson made a gallant attempt to achieve the impossible task of choosing amongst forty or so recordings of "La Boheme" - and while I agreed with her ultimate choice of the Beecham recording with Bjorling, Merrill and De Los Angeles, I have rather more regard for this discarded Karajan recording simply because Pavarotti's voice, in its prime, as she herself put it, "runs through the recording like a golden seam". The rest of the cast is wonderful, too, although Karajan's love for the score is manifested in a rather deliberately "beautiful" approach and thereby slightly undercuts the drama. This thrills in the same way AMOUR did but the choice of numbers is better and the guest singers superb. Natasha Marsh has such a natural voice and her musical interpretations and vocal colours always excite. I can't wait to hear album 3 and hope EMI don't regurgitate tracks again but throw some real money at this exciting soprano.

An engaging introduction into the compelling career of the man who, in his own lifetime, was regarded as a French national institution: Serge Gainsbourg. This compilation provides a broad and chronological career overview of his career; it begins in 1958 with the jazzy strains of 'Le Poinconneur Des Lillas and concludes, 22 tracks and 32 years later, with his gentle, unhurried duet with Catherine Deneuve 'Dieu Fumeur De Havanes' from 1980. Crammed in between are three decades worth of tracks in a multitude of musical styles, including: pop, jazz, rock, reggae and disco. Initials SG shows that Gainsbourg, at his best, had poise ('Initials BB) and passion (UK No.1 'Je T'Aime Moi Non Plus') in equal measures.
