This 2CD release is a great collection of classical music which bears no real relevance to the 2008 in the title other than being released almost (!) in 2008. The only common factor between all the tracks is that they are all, without exception, performed by top artists, making the album both highly recommended and, considering the numerous different performers who are included, guaranteed to please most listeners. The album doesn't make any 'Best of', 'Ultimate' or 'The Only One You'll ever Need' claims because quite simply anyone who likes it will probably want more, the obvious choice of course is the inevitable 'Classical 2009' release next year. This cd was purchased for my son, it very well maybe the worst cd I've come across for children, starting with "Jake the Peg" by Rolf Harris, apparently Jake the peg had three legs, and when he was a baby his father found it difficult to put his nappy on... No I'm not joking this is on the first track of the cd! This cd struck me as more of an adult comedy skit, Im trying in some way to end on a positive note... Unhappy with purchase, can I have a refund?

I love Herb Alpert. The best known stuff on this album are the likes of the superlatively bouncy Spanish Flea, the sublime A Taste of Honey, the energetic Tijuana Taxi, Tetris theme Zorba the Greek and of course the theme to the original Casino Royale (the one with David Niven) which is so clever it hurts. But there's nothing on this album that doesn't delight. Mostly it's instrumental, brass band work and very good brass it is. Like a Mariachi band. It's jolly and fun, and it gets me in a good mood and that makes it pretty fab stuff.

This is an amazing album full of hits which were classis, even just after release all those years ago. The fact that they still sound great is testament to the man. I tried to find one song which i didnt like or didn't hum along to, but it was impossible. Buy it!

Not too impressed with the quality of the recording... I was really hoping for something MUCH better than that. If someone could recommended a brilliant audio recording of Carmen that would be just fantastic. This one lets me down I think. The singing is "top-drawer" though.

In a recent BBC3 "CD Review" broadcast, Alexandra Wilson made a gallant attempt to achieve the impossible task of choosing amongst forty or so recordings of "La Boheme" - and while I agreed with her ultimate choice of the Beecham recording with Bjorling, Merrill and De Los Angeles, I have rather more regard for this discarded Karajan recording simply because Pavarotti's voice, in its prime, as she herself put it, "runs through the recording like a golden seam". The rest of the cast is wonderful, too, although Karajan's love for the score is manifested in a rather deliberately "beautiful" approach and thereby slightly undercuts the drama. Thanks to BGO we are able to experience again the wonderful releases of Shirley Bassey that we originally loved on LP. Hearing her powerful voice calling across the years makes me for one feel young again. It is a shame that most people think of her as the Goldfinger Girl without realising that her range is so much more and she is the most exciting live performer of our generation. These albums are a true testament to her command of emotion and diction which make a Bassey interpreation of a song a truly professional and artistic triumph. It is also wonderful to see the original photography that made Shirley a fashion icon.

This is another amazing collection of the velevety tones of the master. But the best surprize is the release of five new tracks never released to CD before. It's been a long time coming and is aptly fitting for the 20th Anniversary. It's a great easy listening collection of his well known hits and will bring back some wonderful memories to the listener. It's also a treat that some of the oldies have been remastered. Well done EMI. Fantastic

I bought this CD to add to my collection and am glad I did, it is amazing. The only problem there is not enough music on the CD
