I was heartbroken to hear that Eva Cassidy herself considered Live at Blues Alley to be a lesser work. I think it is her best album and it is the one I reach for first when I need an "Eva Fix." Each song is an individual treasure, and together, they form artistry that continues to make me mourn the loss of one of the 20th Century's finest voices, and people.

i bought the us/canada release of this for my dad's birthday i was expecting it to be some old crap that i wouldnt like but when he played it i was blown away by the amazing songs on it and how powerful they effect you, i can remember i was about 12 and he played "patrica the stripper" and i used to sing a long word by word, but my favourite song ever by him was " don't pay the ferryman" its totally a rock ballad and has such power and its an addictive song it always reminds me of me n my dad singing along in the car memories, if anyone hasnt bought it yet i suggest you do because it's worth more than what you pay for it! XX

The atmospheres, textures, spaces, and other worldly sounds of this album are staggering. All other attempts at a "World" music seem to me slight by comparison. There is deep unease in this album; like another reviewer in these pages, I cannot help but be struck by the prescience of the piece, capturing an African/Arabian world ill at-ease under the yoke of what were then growing global American and other western interests. The narratives of Byrne's "Remain in Light" have now been jettisoned in favour of sonic landscapes which perfectly evoke another world, real or imagined, far more vividly even than the brilliant "Listening Wind" from the Talking Heads disc. The only thing I will say about this CD is that the 2007 version only has 16 tracks on each CD, rather than the 19 tracks on the original 2000 edition. Otherwise still agreat CD!!

Since we discovered Charlie Landsborough my friends and I can't wait to get home from work to hear his music and his magnificent voice he sings like an angel the words to his songs have real meanings they are as beautiful as he so obviously is we would love to know when he will be in Australia next

'Now and Then' was without a doubt one of the peaks of the Carpenters' career. 'Yesterday Once More' is probably one of their most popular and enduring tunes, but there are plenty of lesser-known gems. 'This Masquerade' is simply sublime, one of the best things the Carpenters ever did. Randy Edelman's 'I Can't Make Music' is both melancholic and gorgeous, while the arrangement of 'Heather' is lush and moving. Most of what's left is covers of oldies lifted up several notches by those wonderful Karen Carpenter vocals. Great stuff. So why not 5 stars? Well, much as I love the Carpenters, I've never quite been able to forgive them for the sickly, cloying horror of 'Sing'. This CD made for spectacular listening, i was in Treorchy on the night this was recorded and listening to it again all these years later bought back some memories. This is welsh humour at it's best and would probably be lost on anyone else, but for the pure parody of the songs it's really worth a listen.
