Music : Endtroducing... [CASSETTE]

I first got into electronic music a while ago, and frankly couldnt have asked for a better induction. I was recomended this by a friend when I said I liked the electronic stuff on Kid A and he told me that most of it was influenced by this man.
He was right, Shadow is a genius. His skill with a drum machine is matched only by his skill with a sampler and his talent for mixing, perfectly capturing an ever shifting mood with changes of tempo, time signature, key, instruments and genre. Its all captured here, like a beautifully preserved insect in a peice of amber. Jazz, soul, blues, and that ever present loaded-gun backbeat, tying every interesting sample and gorgeous melody together into an amazingly cohesive journey of beats.

After buying the album for no other reason that I was attracted to the cover, I couldn't believe it when it also turned out to be one of the most versatile albums I own. With it's dark beats and mood it is definitly music for creating ambience. Tobin pushes the boundries of genre, by creating what can only be described as a classical-electro style. Taking you through a ride of throught provoking tracks right from the start. For people looking for something different then this is for them. A worth while addition to any record collection. Only down side is that it does take a few listens to truely appreciate how good it actually is.

Music : Bazooka Tooth [VINYL]
This album is raw beyond words. Almost sparten beats and gritty lyrics mingle and meld until your ears are stomped on. Everything vies for your attention here - from the electro buzzes, stuttering drum beats and the almost unitelligable garble coming from Aesop himself - sometime slimy, sometimes funny and sometimes downright scary.

"That sexy style you got/i really dig it/ the way you havent made eye contact with me once in 10 minutes"

Hard to describe - suffice to say that for anyone whos heard the term 'back-packer rap' and wondered what it was, this is probably the finest example you'll ever hear. For anyone else into rap, this just might to your head from the monotonous gangsta/hoes/bling-bling sound thats become the norm ... Read More:

Music : High Noon
For anyone who appreciates the art of breakbeat this release satisfies and stimulates at every listening. Journey into the dramatic and dangerous world of the 'wild west,' where frenetic beats mix freely with atmospheric harmony. More pacey and powerful in tempo and less experimental in composition than many of Shadow's other tracks, High Noon is Shadow letting his hair down. When he's in this mood his musicanship is on par with the work of the Dust Brothers, the greatest breakbeat composers of all time. Essential.
