You won't hear three better examples of how to marry multi-layered downtempo beats with superb jazz trumpet playing than "Toh-Sui", "Fu-Yu" and "Sun is Shining"... exciting, hauntingly addictive and superbly executed. So good that, if you don't watch it, you'll just keep playing them over and over again - which would be a shame because most of what's also here, while darker and more complex, fully deserves repeat listening. A brilliant, highly distinctive and wholly under-rated, "once-off" collaboration... find it and prepare to be enthralled.

Possibly because of it being his first album, and earlier in the stage of Aes Rock and Blockhead (Aesop Rock's main producer), this album is a lot more disjointed than the apocalyptically fantastic "Labor Days". The MC'ing is,for the most part, a lot more listless and monotone than more recent realeases. The beats are slightly choppy and can become grating. That said, without listening too closely, I really enjoy this album. The collaborations with Slug and Doseone are dope, and Aes' lyricism is as abstractly mind bending as ever. If you've never heard Aes Rock before, you'd be best advised to buy Labhor Days or the Daylight EP first, but if you've heard some of his more recent stuff, there are much worse CDs to waste money on.

I admired the soundtrack for Splinter cell: Chaos theory throughout all of the hours I played it, every track has the perfect mood for the mission to which it is assigned.

From the clunky/rustic guitar and haunting strings of the opener, to the eccentric jazzy style of 'Kokubo Sosho stealth', the highly consistent sound genius has taken traditional styles (such as Flamenco for 'Bank') and combined them with his own, un-named genre.

Amon Tobin doesn't play the instruments himself, however, he always knows what he wants from the session musicians, and always gets it.

After finishing SC:CT (the first time round), I recognised 'Ruthless' being played on Top Gear, it was clear then that it had been released ... Read More:

Kool keith is a founder of the underground hip hop scene and has always been a favourite of mine. However on this album he is suprisingly average, as the review above mentions that he is rapping without no alter ego so this album has no concept behind it, and therefore lacks the atmosphere and feeling of his other albums. However stand out tunes include Operation Extortion and I don't believe you. Fans of Keith will still enjoy this, if your new to Kool Keith check out Dr Octagon or listen to one of the many Ultramagnetic Mcs Albums first. Otherwise Keith is still a innovator offering something that many MCs can't.

This CD gives a real taste of the hip hop show. It gives you the feeling that you would experience at a live show.

The rhyming and delivery are among the best at the moment. I definitely think Mr Lif is up there with the likes of Del etc.

If you don't mind fast forwarding through the "between track" talking (which is great first time but becomes annoying), then I am sure you will enjoy it.

Perhaps it might be better to have the album, but this is LIVE, and thats what makes it special. After all, real hip hop heads enjoy freestyling more than anything else.

This is up there with Coldcuts 70 minutes of Madness as one of the most interesting and greatest mix CD's around. The dub me good to me vocal sample over another track is quite simply amazing! Going back to a previous review, The Dirtchamber Sessions was a good album, but was mostly ripped off a mix from DJ Hype back from 1991 called "The Future is Ours" on Fantasy FM! Not the same type of genre, but DJ Craze's Nexxsound CD is also another show of greatness!

49.DJ Krush by: DJ Krush

DJ Krush's forst album is a mix of heavy beats, chilled trumpets and smooth female singers.
Keeping The Motion's sax driven beats over a nince female vocal are a good sign of things to come, with Roll and Tumble's harsh bass and tinkly piano another excellent example of Krush's many talents. Big City Lover is another example of a great singer and superb piano chorus that make this album on of, if not his best works.
But for me, it's On the Dub-ble's haunting sax and Ruff-Neck Jaw's pacy jazz that make this album amazing.

Buy this album for:
Pacy, upbeat hip-hop breaks
A truly amazing trumpet track
Great female vocals

Don't buy it:
If you don't like hip-hop style music
