The problem with this album is that it is TOO POLISHED and commercial. Gone is the raw sound of Ready To Die and all we get is a bunch of poppy RnB hits.
With the wxception of Hypnotize the album is full of forgettable songs. The wordplay that Biggie uses is second to none but the production by Puffy is lame.
Yes it is an epic album and it has a lot of tracks but Puffys production doesn't suit Biggies stories.
Listen to Gimme The Loot from ready To Die and that is Biggie at his very best! Nothing comes close on this album.

You may disagree and that's fine but it's just my opinion.

I can't understand why people listen to this! Is it cool? Does it make you feel like a tough guy? truth is my gangsta wannabes, your not gangstaz or thugs, and neither was Tupac. He preached violence and murder so that people became afraid, which is basically being a coward.

Thank God he can't release any more trash like this. Wannabe thug shizzle. And that goes for 50 cent, snoop and all the other posers out there. They aint gangsta. Take them to live with the italian or russian mafia. Thats gangsta.

have a nice life losers.

For his second album, It Was Written, Nas hired a bunch of hip-hop's biggest producers -- including Dr. Dre, DJ Premier, Stretch, and Trackmasters -- to help him create the musical bed for his daring, groundbreaking rhymes. Although that rhyme style isn't as startling on It Was Written as it was on his debut, Illmatic, Nas has deepened his talents, creating a complex series of rhymes that not only flow, but manage to tell coherent stories as well. Furthermore, Nas often concentrates on creating vignettes about life in the ghetto that never are apolitical or ambivalent. This time around, the production is more detailed and elaborate, which gives the music a wider appeal. Sometimes this is a detriment -- Nas sounds better when he tries to keep it street ... My opinion is that this album is a classic. Commercial yes, lacking the real depth of Me Against the World & Makaveli yes also. But classic none the less. Songs like 'Ambitionz Az A Ridah', 'Only God Can Judge Me', 'I Ain't Mad At Cha', 'Can't C Me', 'Holla at Me' & 'Picture Me Rolling' are defining moments for the genre and are of the caliber that you rarely hear in todays rap. There's awful songs too 'Check Out Time', 'Whats your Phone #' & 'Thug Passion' but overall a v nice album that no rap fan should be without.

`Love, War and the Ghost of Whitey Ford' is the long-awaited new album from ex-House of Pain front man Everlast. The first song that I heard from this album was the cover of Johnny Cash's "Folsom Prison Blues". At first I wasn't too keen on it to be honest, mixing the old country/rock classic with Cypress Hill's "Insane in the Brain" beats, but it is definitely a grower as now I love it. The other single, "Letters Home from a Stone Garden" describes what it's like to be a US soldier in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and writing home to their loved ones. This is easily the most standout track of the whole album and is criminally unheard of as it is excellent.

The album is mainly quite mellow with big beats and Whitey's distinctive rapping dropped ... Read More:

The legend of Tupac Shakur has only grown since his death, not least due to how suprisingly prolific he is from beyond the grave. With the West Coast practically ruling gangsta rap in the early nineties, it says something for Biggie Smalls a.k.a. Notorious BIG that he almost single-handedly shifted attention back onto the East Coast in 1994, and that with only two proper albums his legacy measures up to Tupac's. Indeed, many still consider him to be the greatest to ever pick up the mic, and this album is the majority of the reasoning behind that stance.

Ready To Die, rather than a conventional gangsta album, is a conceptual album about the rise and fall of a hustler and gangsta, played, of course, by Notorious BIG himself. It's gritty, it's dark, it's ... Read More:

Without experimentation where would we be? It's not ATLiens but it's not supposed to be. They showed they could chill us out and take us to that higher place, now they've shown us they can make us move. I'd say its the perfect balance of social comment, funk, spiritualism and everything else that makes music great. The best track has got to be Humble Mumble (shame Erykah Badu only seems to not be annoying when she's backing someone up, another example being 'Baby You got Me - The Roots'.
All in all a shit hot album...Different...But hot.

I didn't pick this album up until this year (2008) as I'm not normally into this kind of hip hop. I mainly listen to things like Talib Kweli, The Roots and other underground/intelligent stuff.

But I have to say I was surprised by this album, yes 50 raps about the stuff everyone else has said, but he does it in quite an intelligent way and over some dope beats. There are a number of standout tracks and this album is definitely worth listening to.

Just don't expect it to be A Tribe Called Quest, 'cos it definitely isn't. But if you take it for what it is you will enjoy it, and it's great for the car!
