I have never been into classical music, however the TV programs Maestro and Last Choir standing (I know trash TV... sorry) made me realise I did like some classical music. So time to test that theory, and of course this CD fitted the bill perfectly, a bit of everything and 99% you will probably know. Good album, maybe I may have discovered culture :-)

very little can take the edge off the interminably dull six hours i spend every so often on a train. then some kind soul gave me this to listen to, whereupon the world erupted into beauty around me. miles and minutes flew by together as i was overcome by the musical masterpiece that this recording is. i listened to it three times on that initial train ride and have listened to it on every subsequent trip. oddly enough i reserve it for such times as travelling as it commands such absolute attention. buy it, listen to it and pass it on. this is one of those experiences you just cant keep a secret, for everyone should hear this and rejoice

Glass's violin concerto is pleasant and immediately accessible. But, Glass's music is all very similar; its as if there is a number of ideas which get continously re-cycled. To my mind, Adams' concerto is stronger

This, and the sister CD are the finest recordings of the type I have heard. Just like playing in the longest playoff ever.

A superb collection of some of Mario Lanza's finest recordings. Considering some go back to 1949 - 1958, the recordings to CD are excellent. You'll never walk alone, sung as it was originally intended by the great Mario Lanza. A perfect collection for new comers or fans looking for the best of Mario Lanza. A track for every occassion.

Absolutely beautiful! I was first interested by Einaudi's work after hearing Dietro Casa in the concluding scenes of This Is England. Waited a couple of minutes and the credits revealed the artist and song. I haven't stopped listening to his work since. I am gutted to realise that he has recently been to the Royal Albert Hall, and that i missed it. Here's hoping for a hasty return to England...

Quite a nice, easy sound at first but it soon wears off. I feel that there is one main compositional idea which the composer does to death. Eventually I couldn't tell one movement from the next.

Great hymns, great choir, great singing. Why not 5 stars? Well, I feel that towards the beginning of this disc there are moments when the performance is somewhat wooden. I don't know if it's beacuse of the grandness of the choir and the abbey or if it's because you couldn't hear the choirboys (later in the disc you can hear them and it is pure grace), but it is only forever so slightly marred by that.
