The set gathers together (with no bonus tracks) the three albums that the Keith Jarrett Trio recorded in 1983 at its first ever recording sessions in New York. At this point, the trio was all potential, and the discs produced - two volumes of Standards, one of Jarrett originals - suggested a ratio of old to new that would not be maintained in the subsequent quarter century. For some time the group was so well known for its exploration of the jazz tradition that it was known as "The Standards Trio"; listeners to this set may wonder whether that is an entirely good thing. The title Britten conducts Britten Operas is a bit misleading - all the pieces in this extensive set are choral works. All have been assembled from Decca's catalogue of definitive performances conducted mainly by the composer himself. A few of the works don't appear to be still available as single disks - so if you want a copy, you will have to buy this set. But at the price of just over £2 per CD, who can complain? Highlight of the set for me was the War Requiem. The only downside - and it's a fairly big one - there's a booklet containing track listings and notes about the music but no libretti, unlike the single disc issues of these pieces which had libretti.

Good buy for enthusiast/collector as it contains the spedding demos and mike thorne demos in uncut glory (for a change). A Thorne demo appears at the end of each CD (not mentioned on sleeve). Proof the band could play, hairs on back of my neck stand when I listen to the power and (this will upset the Sid Vicious type angry sex pistols fan) funky-ness of the early Pistols. The rejected Thomas "Anarchy" is a joy - better guitar solo's in my opinion. Shame Steve Jones' "Audition" comment is tagged on to the wrong "Pretty Vacant".

Motown in its early days before the rot set in at the end of the decade.Here is the label signing up a stack of unknowns because the money made from 1961 had made it possible-the Miracles,the Marvelettes and Mary Wells. This was the year that more hitmakers were added to propagate the legend which by now had the Beatles and the Stones in their corner. I'm listening to this for the first time and it's really hilarious. Richard cheese turns the most miserable songs into a joyus listen, haha, especially his cover of Creep by Radiohead. I also love his small quotes in the middle of the songs also.

I love this package and the problem with saying what I like about it is that EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT! People seem to forget that they are only giving their opinions in reviews like this. It is alright to say a particular track is the best ever but the package is spoiled by the inclusion of another track, because guess what? Someone else will like that track. Some people have said that there were 'mistakes' but some of those mistakes are Robert's quoted favourite albums. I don't think saying that I love a particular album will get anyone to buy this, nor that I hate one but what I will say is that Robert's music, just like Led Zeppelin, has been a great discovery for me and it's all here, honest and laid bare and so different and yet with a continuous ... Firstly, this is available to buy now, I bought it from a US shop just before New years eve through the Amazon "used and new" option under the Amazon list price. The box set is beautifully presented, and, as someone who has been after these shows for a long time, these CDs are well worth the wait! The sound quality is amazing, yes the mix is different to the Live Evil version of the live bits used, but it isn't that different. I've had Live Evil for a long time now and it has burned itself into my DNA, the biggest thrill of this box set is hearing the music as it was played without the editing that appeared on Live Evil.
