Stockhausen an influence on Shostakovich??? Now that is a challenging new interpretation! Great performances though,hardcore serialism notwithstanding!

What a fine collection of classic Queen this is! Plus with all three CDs in one lovely little package you'll be set for hours of fun and enjoyable listening. Each CD has something for everyone; a mixture of Queen's heavier tracks, their pop sound, and sometimes their more experimental feel too. This is a must buy for anyone looking to find out more about Queen and their music, as I doubt there is any compilation set put together better than this one. Over 100 tracks and for less than a full price current CD this is outstanding value like all the Proper boxes. Bostic's music is nothing if not cool-he could take some old standard and do a thing with it and you knew that once he got a groove going it would make you feel good-that rasping sax sound and the vibraphone were his trademarks. Whether this is jazz or rock'n'roll is beside the point-Bostic was one of the great Honkers and his biggest hit Flamingo is proof that what he did was something else!

I have this on vinyl, the original DG stereo box and it is superb, very addictive, I will now get the CD version, recommended!!

ZTT release a 4 CD worth of demos and alternate versions of "(Who's Afraid Of?) The Art Of Noise!". There are some brilliant mixes that Horn refused to put out as singles. I can only find fault with 4 things on this box set, the first is it doesn't include all the tracks that were on "Bashful", the second is that "Beat Box Diversions 3 & 4" (that appeared on the "NME Department Of Entertainment" cassette)isn't included although "Diversion 3" by itself is. The third fault is me being picky, the tracks claiming to be from "The Tortoise And The Hare" isn't how they appeared, as some of the mixes aren't the actual ones on the cassette. My final thing I found wrong with it was... Why wasn't there a DVD documentary about The Art of Noise on it? Apart from that ... Read More:

I had not come across Immerseel and Anima Eterna -interestingly Flemish/Dutch/German (?)and Latin for the phrase "eternal soul" - until a friend recommended this set as being outstanding in many areas. It is, and they are! Firstly, Anima Eterna have a distinctive sound. They play the symphonies and overtures at a high "Viennese" pitch that makes for a bright and exciting listening experience (A = 440). A so-called "original instrument" band (as opposed to a present-day symphony orchestra playing in an "historically informed" manner, as on the Norrington/Hansler set) they play on Nineteenth Century instruments or on copies of originals.
