The album contains all Cliff's SOLO singles at the time of release, thus 'The Joy of Living' and 'Throw down a line' (which are credited to 'Cliff and Hank' (Marvin) are ommited, as are 'Suddenly' (with Olivia Newton John), 'She Means nothing to me' (with Phill Everly) and songs he recorded with ELton John, Van Morrison, Sarah Brightman etc. Some, but by no means all of these are now available on his recvent duets album. Their ommision here is a dissapointment, as there are some great songs among them, thus only 4 stars.

I have to say that this box set was a joy to behold. Not only was the re-mastered music absolutely fantastic, but also the added visuals were a delight. It does beg the question, where have they been hiding these films all these years? OK, so one or two of them are looking a little bit flaky with age, but isn't that the effect ageing has? How does the DVD of the early seventies 'Yessongs' look in 2008, after all? And where else will you see such fanastic material anyway? Moreover, what these sounds and visuals show to me is that in losing Gabriel and Hackett (the latter has been criminally underated for decades in this listener's view) the band lost not merely two members, but a third of their very creativity, and were never the same again. ... One only has to listen to the seminal recordings of the Vienna Philharmonic from 1947, particularly Metamorphosen and En Deutsch Requiem to see what a major talent had been spotted by Walter Legge for EMI. The fun begins when we hear the great Philharmonia Recordings. This is without doubt a 5 star CD-box release - containing all 4 original V.U. albums; at a very fair price. I'm overall very satisfied with the sound; some may find the sound of "White Light / White Heat" a little hard to digest, but that was how the record was made. Apart from one track, all of the great "lost" album "VU" is also here; but strangely enough there is only one track from the other rarities compilation "Another View". CD 1 contains early demos of songs from the first album, and these tracks are mostly only historical interest. The 4 other CDs each contain an original album and plenty of contemporary bonus-tracks. For any Nirvana fan, this collection is a must have. It has plenty of rare and unreleased recordings, including demos and rare live tracks, it also has some fascinating videos. It's quite simply amazing, if you're a Nirvana fan you really have to get this! The packaging and liner notes and photos are fantastic too. I wish I could give it six stars!

Not so much a box set per se, but a back to back album collection from the first seven Dan albums. In one sense this might seem a little lazy, but to be honest, it's very hard selecting (or de-selecting) any specific numbers from the dynamic duo. The remastering is a bonus if you haven't collected the majority of the set on individual albums - plus you get a few bonus numbers thrown in for good measure. My one disappointment with the set is the omission of the early SD single, Dallas/Sail the Waterway. These two fine songs I believe are currently only available on a long deleted 12" single. Lyrically, maybe these two songs don't quite fit in the SD pantheon, but musically they're very much in the style of Can't Buy a Thrill. But all in all, this is a very minor ... Read More:

Well maybe it's only available Second Hand from Amazon UK these days or you might just drop lucky in your local HMV but whatever, this triple CD/2 x DVD (REGION 2!)FULLY LIVE, OFFICIAL boxset needs to be in any Metallicats collection! The 3 x CDs are from Feb/Mar 1993, Mexico City. The 2 x DVDs are from Seattle, August 1989 & San Diego, January 1992. The Audio/Visual quality is fabulous & the DVDs are a good chance to see the lads when they still looked a thrash metal band (James with the long hair & the earrings, Jason with that kind of mullet look, the black armbands etc).
