There are some people who come into your life in whatever fashion and change it utterly. Dylan more than anyone else through his own search for who,what and where he was going and also in musical terms formed an articulate voice for our inarticulate postwar generation. Depend who this is supposed to be essential do-the newcomer to the Urban blues which influenced the British blues bands or essential as the biggest songs are here.Big via other people not especially Muddy who I don't think troubled the pop charts. Which is besides the point-the pop charts are only a mirror to public taste. In the U K Muddy waters was represnted in the 50s by a solitary EP which retailed at the same price as Cliff Richard or Elvis so it died a death and was only there because Decca were licensing product from Chess having only just obttained the catalog. Rory Gallagher is the greatest performer I have ever seen.My first Gallagher gig was at the Free Trade Hall in 1977 when he tore the place apart with an amazing live show full of energy and guitar playing mostly on his signature Strat.He had this presence on stage and used to charge around running to the edge of the stage to meet his audience.After the gig the front ten rows of seats were flattened. He toured extensively around the world and I reckon on the street he is the peoples choice over someone like Eric Clapton. This CD goes a long way to capture the energy of Rory and I think is far better than the "Big Guns" compilation.Some of my personal favourites are on here and the choice of tunes covers Rory's rock,blues,jazz and acoustic ... I think that ZZ Top are a very good band and they remain one of my favorite bands of all-time. this is one great collection and they made great blues music in the 1970s and the 1980s. here are my comments about most of the songs. GIMME ALL YOUR LOVING this is a really great song and is my 2nd favorite song on the entire cd. SHARP DRESSED MAN this is pretty great too, but probably my 5th favorite. ROUGH BOY is a ballad that is too slow and too sad for me. TUSH is an excellent blues rocker remains one of my 5 favorites on this album. MY HEAD'S IN MISSISSPII is a blues rocker one of my favorites, PEARL NECKLACE not my fave, IM BAD IM NATHIONWIDE this is pretty good although remains as a 10th favorite or something. The Pretenders are probably the most enduring and ignored bands from the 70s.alot of people dont even realise that they are still going strong.from their 1st album up until Viva El Amor most of their singles are included on this album and all of their biggest hits are here.This is a great album with so many different styles your never quite sure what decade you are in.

This is a masterpiece collection... and I do like the mixture of talent in lyrics and musical composition. Covers most of his best, popular hit songs, but sadly missing one of what could be considered as part of his essential past ---"Pressure", a synthesizer-driven song from 1982, about the difficulties of dealing with the stress of daily living. I haven't heard this song in years and this would have topped off this set. There are some real timepieces here. I didn't think i'd ever forget the lyrics to a few of these classics. A very underrated artist! A must-have, if you only know a couple of more recent songs, the ones from his earlier days are amongst his greatest and worth a listen or two!

The first album from The Goo Goo Dolls that I actually purchased, and I'm not disappointed. All fourteen songs on this album are amazing - even the new version of Name. Lyrically excellent songs which are catchy and addictive. If you like Iris, you'll love all the other songs on this collection, even if (like me) you'd never heard them before. Highly recommended!

Theres no doubting the quality of most of these songs..though a longer cd would have been more fitting. Smoe ommsions are apparent..tracks like Family man,Isnt it midnight,Beautiful child and a couple of others should have been included. Unfortunately apart from the brilliant Gypsy..the cd has 2 awful tracks from the average mirage album which spoil a good set. The 2 new songs are ok though not amazing. If you are new to FM then this is a good intro to the band as alot of the hits are here. Also check out there excellent comeback album 2003's Say you will which is excellent.

This CD, whilst a great compilation of Lynyrd Skynyrd's most noted songs, appears to have a manufacturing/recording flaw in it. I have tried a couple of copies of this CD, and both have had the same flaw in it, so it appears every copy has it. In the last 30 seconds of the song "Simple Man", one of Skynyrd's finest in my opinion, the sound suddenly goes strange for about 2 seconds before returning to normal. It's not a jump in the CD, the sound quality just goes strange, and strange is the only word to describe it. As I mentioned, I have purchased more than one copy of this CD as I presumed this flaw would not be in all the copies, but it has been there in all the copies I've purchased, and I've had to return them all.
