This is absolutely perfect summer barbecue music. Also ideal for playing very loud in the car with the windows open - the kind of music that makes you wish you had a convertible. Best track: Track Two - "Beat Me 'til I'm Blue", which deserves to be a retro-funk classic. It is absolutely criminal that everybody doesn't know and love this tune. So buy it, play it loud, and spread the word.

"Country Rock" might be the term used on the back of this, but what it actually is is great driving music. Members of the band form other well-known groups/musical phenomena - Loggins and Messina springing happily to mind. This is a wonderful way to hear the band's best numbers, especially if you're totally new to them, as I was, until about 6 weeks ago. Not only that, but you may just find it the ultimate in feel good music. It makes you want to put the hood down on your car and step on the gas. Oh, and I defy you not to love Rose of Cimarron. Glorious stuff.

Really great double cd compilation, which succeeds in drawing in all the main S&TFS highlights. I will, however, be very mean and give this only a four-star rating. You'll think i'm being a bit churlish, but it's mainly because of a relatively ungenerous playing time of about 60 minutes per disc. In other words, there was plenty of room for more. There was room for "Sex Machine" from "Stand!", or the remaining tracks from "Riot". Granted, it's absolutely not in the record company's interests to do this, and i will readily admit to being terribly unreasonable. I dont agree with other review on this and in my humble opinion you are better off buying AN INTRODUCTION TO HARRY CHAPIN on Rhino as it has all the above plus Coreys Coming and Tangled Up Puppet which are two of his best songs which no collector should be without. Have many happy memories of his great gigs in London over the years and especially the RAINBOW concert where he ran off stage and came out the front at the end and shook everyones hand, signed stuff and chatted to us as we were leaving !! Great guy ... sadly missed

This covers a prolific period - five albums in just over 3 years. It shows the changes in style (from R&B through to "New Wave") and the strength of Graham Parker's songwriting - just listen to the words of You Can't be Too Strong. At the time many people compared Parker to Elvis Costello, both were equally talented and any Elvis Costello fans would appreciate Parker: some of his earlier R&B is up to Van Morrison standard. It contains a good selection from the widely acclaimed Squeezing Out Sparks album ( Squeezing Out Sparks). If you were a Parker fan back in the seventies you may go for that first. Why not try this instead, you get the great tracks from SOS plus a whole load of others (at the time of writing at a bargain price).
