Probably the finest female artist of all time, this CD must be the bargain of all time! Patsy could sing absolutely anything and make it sound her own, but this collection, in superb sound, highlights her greatest hits and is REAL country music.Everyone should have at least one Patsy Cline CD in their collection. The version of Joni Mitchell’s ‘Woodstock’ included here was the very first single I bought by myself without the aid of a parent, so it is special for me. Years later the chiming introduction and the golden toned harmonies still exert a hold over me. But what of the rest of this compilation? The rest is mostly accomplished country rock with a number of Matthews compositions and covers of songs by such as Neil Young, Richard Thompson and James Taylor. For some reason Eels had passed me by, but a week ago I bought Beautiful Freak and was hooked. Taking the advice of reviewers led me to buy this and it is simply excellent. As a newcomer it is a perfect distillation of all that is needed to appreciate this hugely talented and original band. Having become familiar with their backstory I can see clearly how these songs are at times moving, cathartic and downright addictive. As for the DVD that was a pleasant addition and just fits perfectly with the enigmatic image their music portrays. Big fish in a big pond.

Although most of the contents are undeniably 'essential Janis' it's hard to fathom why the record company chose to include the inferior studio pre-Monterey versions of classics such as 'Down on Me' and 'Bye Bye Baby' from their 1st album.
