It would be churlish to criticize "Greatest Hits", as it's the classic compilation, and the best possible 40-odd minute introduction to the duo's work. On the face of it, everything's here. Plus this is an of-the-time release, one you or your parents probably owned way-back-when, and even the cover can bring on pangs of nostalgia. It's still a superb listen and, even if like me you own all the original albums, it's something that is always first to get in the player. Sometimes I don't even stop it before "Cecilia" -- and not just because I'm not quick enough having been lulled into a pleasurable stupor by the "Bookends" coda. BUT this is what you must know. Classic and timeless stuff, a collection of all the good old songs. The technical quality is higher than you would expect in view of the vintage of some of these recordings, so the transfer has ben really well done. For 6 quid, you can't go wrong.

I wanted this as soon as I saw it advertised on the TV, it is good to listen to and it is worth buying but as usual the best tracks are played on the TV advert, I enjoy the colaboration with Stray Cats and I have played the album more than once but I can't get too enthusiastic about it, overall it's ok.

I had of course always been aware of the Beach boys, but being a 17 year old brit, they were never top of my 'to listen list'. However I saw a rhcp cover of I get around,liked it, and decided to buy a complation of beach boy songs to take on my summer holiday. Needless to say they are now one of my favourite bands up there with the Ramones and the Beatles. This compliation, as an introduction, is really good. It has all of the biggest hits. However going back to it now after hearing the likes of Pet sounds, sunflower and all summer long, I cant help but feel that some of the best songs are missing. The likes of 'Wendy', 'All summer Long', and later masterpeices like 'forever' are nowhere to be seen. But as an introduction, this is really good. ... Read More:

Excellent CD well put together compilation of Hits - great to listen to well worth buying.

This album shows the progression Paul Weller has made as a purely solo artist from 1992 to 1998. The tracks on it are stunning and include "Changing Man" "Out of the Sinking" "Broken Stones" "You do something to me " and many more it does not however include any of the stunning tracks which were not released as singles and therefore the collection is rather incomplete. I would advise anyone buying this to treat it as an introduction to Paul Weller's solo work and then go on and buy his back catalogue as I am sure you will find songs on the albums which are better than some of the tracks included. I say this as a die hard Weller fan that first saw the Jam in the 1970's and still enjoys his work today.

I got this before going to see Van Morrison Live at Symphony Hall. The CD made up for the lack of known songs sung by Van in his live performance. It was a strange affair, he did not speak to the audience and performed a very self indulgant show. However I can't fault the CD it is great.

This is the first time I have bought a REM Cd and so far, the tracks I have heard are great. Every song on this album is great.

Having bought this CD (full-price, ouch!), I was rather disappointed. Yes, I like Joe Brown's songs, but even though a few of the tracks had been re-recorded (and it said so on the cover), it sounded as though a couple of the "original" tracks were perhaps not the versions heard on those old 45s! For those not used to the "proper" originals, this CD would seem a good buy on the face of it....but I felt a bit cheated! So....I purchased the double CD "Piccadilly/Pye Anthology" at a cheaper price...that's more like it, much more satisfying! GED

Michael Jackson helped out alot on this album by designing a new CD lacquoring process. This made it possible for him to give his free copies of this album back to Madonna without her seeming to notice. Of course Madonna being a bit wise and very old didn't really know what CDs are and now always looks confused. The 'immaculation collection' actually refers to the immaculate homogenised grey appearance of collected belly button fluff despite it originating from garments of differing colouration.
