Although this album is a Best Of.. I do like the fact that instead of just collecting the studio songs and releasing them on one or two albums they have tried to do something different and re record them. I think the songs sound great and the album is well worth a listen to. I think they are a very underated band as with so many of the newer bands, Royal Hunt is another one that springs to mind. My favourite tracks on the "rockers" cd are After The Love Has Gone, Spellbound, Name Of The Rose and Red. On the ballads side i love Silent Night, Sail Away, Through The Fire and We Rule The Night.

im not the type to go out and buy the bits and bobs from lead vocalists who did there dues with the best bands the UK ever produced as with some releases like Paul Di Anno himself tend to be rehashed tracks of well known songs of their time with the bands that hit the big time with little of there own solo in put added to it. But Rob Halford is brave enough to strike out on his own and with the material he sang with fight and then the Halford band shows why he is not afraid to experiment producing some successful results espcialy on the tracks i favour like Nailed To The Gun and Into The Pit and Resurrection, Made In Hell, and Golgotha. The rest of the material may be hit and miss but of all the other well known artists ... Read More:

Before listening to this album, I had only heard the song "Bridge of Sighs" played ad infinitum on classic rock radio. I had also heard that Robin Trower was a good guitar player, playing in the style of Jimi Hendrix. That's all I knew. After picking up this album on a whim - I realized there was a lot more to this great guitarist than just one song. While "Bridge of Sighs" is a stand out track - there are so many other great songs that tend to go unnoticed - "Daydream," "Lady Love," "Shame the Devil", and "Victims of the Fury" to name a few. All played in a style Robin can comfortably call his own. Yes, there are similarities to Jimi Hendrix - but who ever said that was a bad thing? As a long time fan of the Velvets (I possess all their original albums on vinyl!, as well as all the box sets/ rarities!), I was expecting this addition to the "An introduction to.." series to be a round up of a few classics interspersed with some epic album cuts. However I am amazed to say that this is the most balanced VU compilation I have ever come across! The key to its surprise sucess is its compilers decision to ommit some, although famous, more monotonous epics such as "Herion" and "I'm waiting for the man". Some fans may cry "sacrilage"!, I found that it gave extra scope to take in all the sides of the band. The set begins with the lighthearted but infrectious "Temptation (inside your heart)", a more atypical VU song you will not find! This ... Read More:

I have been a Maiden fan for 16 years and seen them live 3 times, and I think this collection is a good overview of their career and a good introduction for the casual fan. Classics like Phantom Of The Opera are on here, alongside some great new stuff from the last 2 albums. However, what stops me giving this CD 5 stars is the shocking ommision of the greatest Maiden song ever - Hallowed Be Thy Name. This is like a John Lennon best of without Imagine, or a Bob Dylan greatest hits without Like A Rolling Stone - IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE!!! There are many tracks on here far inferior to Hallowed Be Thy Name (eg The Clansman) which should have been ditched to make room.
