Shaman is the follow-up to the hugely successful "Supernatural". Like its predecessor, each song on the album has a different guest appearing with the band. This is a similar formula to the Jools Holland "Friends" series albums and is obviously very popular although, for me, is not ideal. This is because the album as a whole loses some of its coherency as a result of all of the different artists appearing and I prefer a more unified feel on albums.

Nothing wrong with the music mind - there's some fine songs on here - and they'll sound great when they appear on your mp3 player's random shuffle, but the album loses one star through this lack of a consistent feel.

Disregard the myth (mainly among some critics) that this album is a weak copy of Sgt Pepper. True, it was inspired by Pepper. (Good idea!) However to say it is "woefully misguided" or other such rubbish is to miss the fact that this album on its own is one of the top ten psychedelic albums of all time. If it was by any other band, it would be hailed as such. Unfortunately, many critics fail to see (and hear this) and continue to perpetuate the myth that the Stones "made a mistake" based on comparisons with the other Stones albums. Absolute bollocks! Listen for yourself: "She's a Rainbow", "2000 Light Years from Home", "Citadel", "In Another Land", "Gomper". Classic brain warpers on par with S.F. Sorrow, Pepper, Floyd's Piper, The End - Introspection. ... Read More:

I first heard this album when my older brother would play it over and over until I hated it. When it got re-released with extra songs, I found a new liking for it. There were the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and even Eric Clapton (Cream era), but there really was only one true solo guitar artist of this time. Jimi Hendrix just explodes on every track with hard core `rock and roll' ("Fire") or strong R & B ("Hey Joe"), but his classic FM songs were "Manic Depression" and "Purple Haze", the latter having one of the most replicated riffs in history outside of Led Zeppelin's "Stairway To Heaven". Little mention was made in the sixties of his drummer Mitch Mitchell or his bassist Noel Redding, but here with this Remastered recording, you hear the sound as it was ... Read More:

I bought this for my daughter-ahemm-on her 11th birthday because of the 'Billy Elliot' effect.
She hummed 'We love to boogie' so much we boughtn this hoping she would play it out but we found ourselves quietly-cough-singing along and knowing more of the words than we expected or were prepared to rpeviously admit we knew.
A good basic compialtion to have in your collection if you like the Seventies-Life on Mars went some way to gettin my husband and I to forgive the terrible wrongs the era did us and the selection is better than you'd think.
Really it needs to be spread over the two albums as there are more hits than you think along with songs you don't know and enough variety that might make you buy some of T-rex's other albums.
All in all ... Read More:

95.Electric Warrior [30th Anniversary Special Edition] by: T. Rex

Music : Electric Warrior [30th Anniversary Special Edition]
By 1971, Marc Bolan had left his people with stars in their hair (or whatever it was) behind, ditched the two man hippy band style of Tyrannosaurus Rex, and had two huge hits in "Ride A White Swan" and the sublime, iconic "Get It On". The ambient, often warbling hippy stuff had largely been dumped in favour of a harder edge by the release of this seminal piece of work. Nevertheless, Bolan was already a dyed-in-the-wool old folky/hippy by now and he still couldn't resist the lure of the cheesecloth in producing tracks such as "Cosmic Dancer" and "Life's A Gas". Alongside these airy cuts, however, stood the hard rock influence of "Rip Off"; the full-on rock blues of "Lean Woman Blues" (his mate David Bowie was doing much the same sort of stuff on parts on "The Man Who Sold ... This album is brilliant. Despite having bought most of NY's other albums, I'd never bought this one because I had believed the stories about the Geffen period being rubbish and had believed all the lukewarm reviews. So I bought it and haven't stopped playing it since. There are lots of classic NY songs on here, and even the not-so-great ones are still far, far better than the critics would have you believe. Don't believe the lazy cliches - buy it and see what I mean.

'Wag The Dog' is one of my favourite films, and I watch it regularly. It has all the elements I find appealing - politics, intrigue, skullduggery, impeccable performances from the entire cast. And, of course, this evocative soundtrack by the multi-talented Mr. Knopfler.

Yes, at 24 minutes, it might be a tad short for those who expect a full hour from an audio CD. But what an excellent 24 minutes! If you are into the film, or merely just interested in Mr. Knopfler's work - both with Dire Straits and solo projects, this CD is a must-have. Just set your player onto 'REPEAT' and you'll get your fill!

....it's going to be. That is ....it isn't Buena Vista Social Club, it isn't Ibrahim Ferrer, it isn't Ali Farka Toure, it isn't Flaco Jimenez. But then again it's all of these and more. In particular it's more of Ry and in a bigger sense its more altogether. A commanding view with all Ry Cooder's talents of bringing together disparate elements into a musical whole. Every play pays off and the record gets better and better with each hearing. In some ways it reminds me of early spring backs to folk melodies on "Into the Purple Valley" but with everything that he has done since coming together over a long and fruitful career and adding to the disc. Quite possibly the best thing that he has out together for a long time and worth persisting with

The definitive Hendirx cd, brilliantly produced it ranges from low beat blues records such as 'voodoo chile' to upbeat rock records in 'crosstown traffic' to great covers in the form of 'all along the watchtower'.
The 'wah-wah' effect on 'voodoo child slight return' is ledgendary and will be remembered until the end of man.
The guitar playing on '1983...(A Merman I Should Turn To Be)' is brilliant and really suits the pysecdelic theme of the song.

I really wanted to like this album. Two icons of R&B getting together again to cover some classic tracks. Unfortunately, this album is anaesthetic, tame and bland. Maybe 4 out of the 12 tracks are worth listening to. Clapton mumbles away in the background and spoils perfectly good music with muffled vocals and most of the track choice is at best uninspired.

Probably the notable exception is "Key to the Highway", which, along with "Riding with the King" is among the few highlights of this album. The musicianship is brilliant but it's so TAME!

What this pair need to to is get up on stage with George Thorogood and hammer it out instead of sitting in their rocking chairs telling everyone what fine guitarists they are while they pluck a few fine chords. BB King did it much better with U2. Shame ... Read More:
