Compared to his famous first album 'Naturally", this album is much more coherent in style; which is more sparse, more soulful. The intimacy of the first is allopver the place; the songs are less minitures of guitarplaying, and more structured.

For those who haven't heard of the great man; his guitar playing influenced Mark Knopfler (heavily) and Eric Calption (although he denies it now). JJ Cale humsings & his songs are Americana avant-la-lettre; a mixture of Country & Blues, with a dash of Folk, Jazz and Soul, without becoming too 'arty'or intellectual, firmly bedded in the great pool of American musisc

Not a patch on Sticky Fingers, Exile, Let it Bleed or Beggar's Banquet in the halcyon Mick Taylor period Stones, or even Some Girls. At just eight tracks, with two absolute duffers, it could be regarded as short-changing its fan-base. Yet... it's still one of my favourite Stones albums - partly because it was the first one I bought, and when you've laid out all your hard-earned pocket money for a piece of vinyl you're going to convince yourself that it's worth the money, but also because it has such a great feel and sound, illustrating how some good production can leave a record sounding greater than the sum of its parts.

Despite being recorded in Munich rather than Montserrat, it oozes tropical heat, the Fender Rhodes piano locates ... Read More:

103.The Ultimate Experience by: Jimi Hendrix

Music : The Ultimate Experience
This is my all-time favourite Hendrix album. From the opening guitars on All Along the Watchtower to the final death twitches of Jimi's strat on Wild Thing this takes in many of Jimi's must-have recordings. In fact, if I were to run off a string of Hendrix's songs to be included in my desert-island compilation, this CD would be pretty much it. Buy it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

'Wag The Dog' is one of my favourite films, and I watch it regularly. It has all the elements I find appealing - politics, intrigue, skullduggery, impeccable performances from the entire cast. And, of course, this evocative soundtrack by the multi-talented Mr. Knopfler.

Yes, at 24 minutes, it might be a tad short for those who expect a full hour from an audio CD. But what an excellent 24 minutes! If you are into the film, or merely just interested in Mr. Knopfler's work - both with Dire Straits and solo projects, this CD is a must-have. Just set your player onto 'REPEAT' and you'll get your fill!

Forget heavy metal and led zepplin - Jeff has more balls in his little finger than all all the 'great' guitar players except than perhaps Jimi himself. Pure testosterone. The perfect driving music - no speed limit.

Jeff can change from thumping rock distortion to beautiful haunting bends and swoops - in pitch perfect highs and lows. Not to go through the tracks one by one - but this is Jeff hitting a high he has hinted at all his career. Never one to copy old riffs and cliches - he has been a unique talent ever since he picked up a 6 string. It's a change to see an artist not go down the commercial route just for the money.. No Frog Songs or Wonderful Tonights - just great guitar.

This is an excellent compilation that incorporates the best tracks from 2 other compilations - "A Decade Of Hits" and the expanded "The Road Goes on Forever". It includes a fair amount of the bands jamming, as can be expected on one disc.
However, it does not miss on any major songs - 'Ramblin Man', 'Midnight Rider', 'Hoochie Coochie Man', 'Whipping Post' are all present.
Some songs here have been replaced by extended versions (for instance a 7 minute 'Pegasus'), thus including the very best versions available.

This album narrowly misses being a definitive compilation, but is great value for money!

Grasshopper finds JJ moving into a slightly different phase, it still has all the mellow traits of the previous albums but stylisticly it ranges from his usual laid back style " City Girls " to raw rock tunes "One step ahead of the blues" and also the soulful ballad "You keep me hanging on ". A solid record through and through, highly recommended listening.

Want to get away from the frenetic "Eric is God" entrapment????? Then join Delaney & Bonnies backing band, which is what Clapton did in this Southern Rock/Soul good time rocking band. This really has stood the test of time really well and considering the time it was recorded (1971 I think) its really unindulgent.Delaney Bramlett was an old friend of Duanne Allman so I think thats how they wee aquainted through Derek & the Dominoes. Great to listen to in the car!

The 'BBC sessions' are a good place to go to hear lots of short live examples of Jimi's early music. I wouldn't say it's the best place to go for a live experience, for that I'd suggest 'Live at Berkley', but it does have some great playing and a good feel when Jimi was just starting out and was fresh. There are a lot of repeat tracks on this double album and not many extended Jams which he was carried off so well live, but there is a good selection of his music here (although it is mainly from his first two albums). The jingle he wrote for Radio 1 is excellent and the various spoken word introductions are good at recreating the feel of the time, very cheesy and very sixties. As usual with experience Hendrix releases there is a comprehensive booklet with some ... Read More:
