Grasshopper finds JJ moving into a slightly different phase, it still has all the mellow traits of the previous albums but stylisticly it ranges from his usual laid back style " City Girls " to raw rock tunes "One step ahead of the blues" and also the soulful ballad "You keep me hanging on ". A solid record through and through, highly recommended listening.

well... amazing... i got it from amazon, came with bubble rap and invoice, great condition the music is stunning he captured teh essence of renaissance, middle ages, 1600's music so met the album isnt too short, its only 8 tracks a couple being around 6 to 8 minutes long what i didnt like was teh lack of bass guitar sound in teh back ground, it kinda left out some effects, but i turned teh bass boost on, which helped. the sogn with singing ... wellll theyre ok, the riffs do sound like neo clasical/speed metal and teh signign is loud and high pitched but it seems they stuggled with the melody goign with teh lyrics. but apart from this this album will ... I think this album is absolutely brilliant. Every track is a gem in my opinion and there is a perfect selection. Great value too.

Following DTS's habit of taking an original quad mix and placing it on a DTS encoded CD. This Clapton album as a wonderful old style Quad mix, static instrument placement in four corners, there has been some effort to send some of the base to the Sub woofer in an attempt to make the sound more modern.. This album has some great songs `Sky is crying' and `swing low sweet chariot', and the Quad mix gives another slant on an album. This disc plays in all the DVD players I have had with on board DTS decoding. So enjoy if you can get hold of a copy.

My favourite zappa album for quite some time,Frank's previous release 'Waka/jawaka'is excellent, but it doesn't flow throughout as well as this album. A very big band, with musicians such as Sal Marquez shining out in particular. There's no better introduction than the title track, as it smoothly moves onto the next track 'For calvin'. It goes through many changes and never manages to bore the listener. Cletus Awreetus-Awrightus is a comedy jazz song,with many of the 'amusing' voices Frank used on many of his albums, instead of the in your face parody of 'sheik yerbouti', Frank rather 'created' as opposed to mocking some politician. Mentioning Marquez above, I think that George duke for his exquisite key solo on eat that question. The finishing track ... Read More:

Fire Garden was Steve Vai's proper follow up to his classic "Passion and "Warfare" and probably not quite as good overall. It does however represent significant growth for him as a musician and composer. And it's got "Crying Machine" on it (more on that later), which makes it indisposable. The album kicks off with a series of crashes and a siren going off warning appropriately enough that "There's a fire in the house" (track 1), and that there's some smouldering lead work to come. Almost too early on though, we're delivered "Crying machine", the album's (and Vai's) finest moment. The staccato E augmented 9th chord hammers the start of the track home, and we're straight into one of Vai's strongest melody hooks, bouyed along perfectly with a Cry baby wah-wah effect ... At times intense, at others relaxing, this live, semi-acoustic, jazz-blues album stands in John Mayall's discography as second only to the 'Beno album'. This isn't that loud, messy jazz; this is relaxing and at times even beautiful. The musician's interplay is wonderful, with guitar, flute, saxophone and, of course, mouth organ melodically harmonizing. Mayall's singing is probably the best I have ever heard it, and the atmosphere created is wonderful. Definitely worth the money to any blues fan interested in something slightly left field. It's just unfortunate that we couldn't have been there ourselves.

Having been blown away by the first three albums, unlike the reviewer above I was terribly disappointed with 'Ghost of a Rose'. There are some great moments on it, but the melodies are blander and weaker over all and the tracks less infectious than on previous (and subsequent) albums. Several of the tracks almost get somewhere great but not quite - which is a shame and a bit frustrating as I can see that this album could have been great. Having said that, the title track is perfect (and better than the curiously re-recorded version on 'Beyond The Sunset') and 'Cartouche' and 'Loreley' are certainly worth buying the album for if nothing else. I still enjoy it and play it, but it's always an 'almost' great album...
