A super mix of Santana and the cover of metallic blue is worth the money. I havent listened to this record for ages but have you ever heard a bad Santana record?

There is little denying that the Stones were at their creative peak from the albums Beggars Banquet to Goats Head Soup.

Recorded in 1969 after Mick Taylor joined the band, this was the tour that saw the infamous Altamount concert when a fan was beaten to death by a group of Hells Angels thugs.

That awful incident aside, the Rolling Stones have never sounded better. Taylor compliments Richards perfectly with licks so clean you could eat your dinner off them.

The Stones love of Chuck Berry comes to force with brilliant renditions of Carol and Little Queenie.

Jumping Jack Flash - one of the Stones best songs, is sometimes sloppily performed. Not in this case- it's tight and not rushed.

Great stuff. While I was not yet old enough at the time the album was produced (I heard the album first in the late 70's), the feel is late 60's and yet completely timeless at the same time. I think the voice of Gregg Rolie is just fantastic on a couple of the tracks, and the whole band is simply outstanding. There is a fair bit of bonus on the legacy version of the album. Abraxas and the third album are more polished, but perhaps the slight rawness of this first album is part of the attraction.

This is Still Got The Blues part 2. The quality of songs isn't quite up to its illustrious partner but the guitar is still scintillating. That isn't to say the songs are bad, far from it. Story Of The Blues has a solo to equal Gary's (and ANYONE else's) best. Worth the entrance price alone! The second and last of Gary's rocked-up blues albums. Brilliant stuff.

I first heard this album when my older brother would play it over and over until I hated it. When it got re-released with extra songs, I found a new liking for it. There were the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and even Eric Clapton (Cream era), but there really was only one true solo guitar artist of this time. Jimi Hendrix just explodes on every track with hard core `rock and roll' ("Fire") or strong R & B ("Hey Joe"), but his classic FM songs were "Manic Depression" and "Purple Haze", the latter having one of the most replicated riffs in history outside of Led Zeppelin's "Stairway To Heaven". Little mention was made in the sixties of his drummer Mitch Mitchell or his bassist Noel Redding, but here with this Remastered recording, you hear the sound as it ... Read More:

136.Burnt Weeny Sandwich by: Frank Zappa

Music : Burnt Weeny Sandwich
This was just about the last of the original MOI albums("Weasels" was released after they and FZ split)and it is my all time favourite album, not just by FZ but by anybody.
Two covers of 1950s doowop(WPLJ and Valarie)are the bread, the sandwich is the remainder, fantastic instrumentals showing both the Mothers in full flight(mostly in the studio, but some bits,ie the guitar solo in "Holiday in Berlin Full Blown",spliced in from live shows),FZ's blossoming as a guitarist, and lastly his abilities as a composer and bandleader.Highlights are hard to pick out as the music is so good, but "Holiday In Berlin Full Blown","Aybe Sea"(a rare example of FZ playing auocustic guitar)and the piano solo followed by the full force of the MOI at the begining of "Little House ... You dont need to be a guitar enthusiast or a fan to experience the sheer genius of Mark Knopfler that this collection tellingly brings home. This album is a gem that's been hidden away for too long. If you enjoy instumental music then this one absolutely *must* be one in your collection. There's a touch of folk to many of the tracks and Mark Knopfler has partnered with greats like Paul Brady to produce some of the best in there. Oh and remember, the first few times you listen to this, make sure you're in a place and time you'd want to remember much much later . . . this album does that to you - brings back the sights, the smells and the sounds of the place where you first listened to it!!

Where to start on the album...well it has to be Little Wing...the sleeve notes by Jimmie Vaughan state that with headphones on you can hear his amp buzzing and almost smell the pipes burning...and indeed you can, very rarely is anything this good!...add to this stevie's own redition of the title track, though the best version of this is to found on Martin Scorsese's Stevie collection. (a blistering live version).
This album was released just after Vaughan's death and is very possibly his best (studio) album.
What would he have been like if he had lived!?!?

This is an excellent compilation that incorporates the best tracks from 2 other compilations - "A Decade Of Hits" and the expanded "The Road Goes on Forever". It includes a fair amount of the bands jamming, as can be expected on one disc.
However, it does not miss on any major songs - 'Ramblin Man', 'Midnight Rider', 'Hoochie Coochie Man', 'Whipping Post' are all present.
Some songs here have been replaced by extended versions (for instance a 7 minute 'Pegasus'), thus including the very best versions available.

This album narrowly misses being a definitive compilation, but is great value for money!

I hate live albums, they never seem to deliver the goods in terms of studio versions of the content. In this case (along with Live Dead), I shall make an exception. If I had only ten discs from which I could choose to take to a desert island, Roxy would certainly be among them. The musicianship is outstanding, real 'event horizon' stuff. Then you have the humour. Zappa was so exacting that I doubt very much if the content album could have been better recorded in the studio - that's the magic of Zappa and that's the magic of music. Love it to bits!
