'Out Of Our Heads' is the final Stones album that was a mixture of covers and original material. In 1965 the Stones still considered themselves primarily a singles band so much of their attention was still being focused on those three of four single releases a year. That's not to say 'Out Of Our Heads' is not a good album - it does have much to offer but it's rather an uneven album in many ways particuarly when compared with the albums that followed. I'd never bought anything before purely 'cause Amazon recommended it. I'd always heard some of the stuff by the artist or seen them on TV somewhere. I was oblivious to SRV though so I popped it on my 'Wish List' while I mulled over the pros and cons. All of the reviews were very positive drawing comparisons to Hendrix. I was curious and attracted to this man described as a seminal blues guitar hero so I summoned up the courage and added it to an order to make up my £15 for free delivery. What a treat! In the early days John played a gig at the infamous whiskey ago go club in L.A At the time a band called the velvet underground where also playing a gig there...it so happens that the bass player of the velvet undergrounds name is also John Cale, so the club owner said to John I am going to call you JJ Cale to prevent confusion, John replied, if your gona pay me to play you can call me what ever you want.... In reply tothe comments of Tesorro from Spain, this is definitely not the original CD nor the original track listings. The track listings printed above are wrong. I should know. Influenced by his comments I just bought it and lo and behold it is the AMERICAN VERSION with Paint it Black but without Mothers Little Helper, Out of Time, What to do and Take it or Leave it. I'm so disappointed. My advice Leave it and get the original British version.

When listening to "fires at midnight" I am instantly transferred back in time, in the Medieval era, probably in a cavern , listening to a minstrel... Ritchie Blackmore and Candice Night were obviously an item in their previous lives, somewhere in the Medieval ages, and God re-united them again in the present to bring us back all these forgotten melodies and memories from the past. The music is enchanting! Do buy this CD and you will realise what i am talking about! Mr. Blackomore, Miss Night...I salute you!

This is another milestone in Moore's rock solid history. Throughout his career he has chopped and changed genres frequently making him such an exiting guitarist. This is one such episode where the obvious celtic feel is prominent reflecting his mood from revisiting his native ireland and the untimely death of the great Phil Lynott. The Wild Frontier Track was originally written for Phil Lynott to share vocals which sadly never came about, Over the Hills is a very clever well put together song and probably the only that that stood upto and warranted the over-production. Wait a little time has 'Billy Idol' stamped all over it (Moore made no secret of admiring him at the time). The loner is an instrumental which liked by Many but too tame for Moore. Friday on ... I know I'll probably be knocked for giving this final Allman Brothers album to feature Duane Alman only three stars; but I must admit that I find it a little uneven. The album has a strong opener in Gregg Allman's "Ain't Wasting Time No More", but Dickey's Betts' long instrumental "Les Brers in A Minor" sounds a little too loose to keep my interest going. The melodic "Sweet Melissa" is another strong Gregg Allman effort; one of my favorites. First track to feature Duane Allman is the extremely long live improvisions over Donovan's "There is a Mountain" called "Mountain Jam". Rick Turner, founder of the fable Alembic Guitars Company, is a friend of Ry Cooder. He played him an album recorded by Vishwa Mohan Bhatt for Water Lily Acoustics. Bhatt is an Indian musician who conceived and plays an instrument called the "mohan vina" which, used with a metal slide, strongly recalls a slide guitar. Cooder, a master of the latter instrument, was so moved by what he heard that he decided to meet Bhatt. Subsequently, both recorded this instrumental gem of an album. The recording sessions were very loose and the music was entirely improvised. The interplay between those two master musicians is such that, as the music progresses, Ry's guitar lines start bending their heads toward India while Vishwa's get bluesier.
