Music : Jeff Beck's Guitar Shop
The only criticism of Jeff Beck's 1970s masterpieces -- BLOW BY BLOW and WIRED -- is the absence of his own compositions. Here, without George Martin or Narada Michael Walden, he has a go. You can't hate them, but there's little to love in these mediocre tunes. Track #5, for instance, is a virtual copy of anything from Terje Rypdal's 1977 opus, AFTER THE RAIN, but just 12 years late.

But like much of Bill Bruford's work of the 1980s, the biggest sin committed on this album is the electronic drum sound. I just can't believe this is the same Terry Bozzio who was so key to the success of Frank Zappa's ZOOT ALLURES and BONGO FURY. An incredible disappointment.

If you think you really might enjoy this album, the best ... Read More:

When buying one of Vai's albums it's important to remember that you are not buying 'popular style' or 'conformity'; you are buying Vai's Vision. This album is classed as Vai's vocal album; the one in which the great Devin Townsend lent his extraordinary vocal talents to. REMEMBER THIS! This album is not in the same vein as Vai's other, more self-indulgent instrumentals. It is not supposed to compare. Vai has said it numerous times before: this was his vision, to create a vocal album that focused less on his techical wizardry and more on his songwriting abilities. People, however, just absolutely love to grate on Vai's 'inferiority' as a songwriter, giving little thought to the concept of Vai as an experimentalist. He experimented: Sex and Religion ... "Flashpoint" was the first live album from The Stones for nearly ten years. This was the live album where it all changed a bit for The Stones. Now a full band entourage with a horn section and backing singers, we see the band move from the sixties devil may care tub thumping of "Get Your Ya-Yas Out" via the seventies drug-addled hedonism of "Love You Live" to the random eighties cover versions of "Still Life". We arrived at the well-oiled, synchronised replica of a Stones stadium show, where every track had an exact timing, to the second. Nothing was ad hoc anymore, the band came on at 9 pm and they exited the stage at 10.47 prompt. This, to many, made the live Stones experience a more detached, passionless affair and I would agree that this is possibly ... Read More:

The story behind "Lather" is probably better known than the CD itself-you know,FZ tried to get a four album set released by Warner Bros, who wouldn't do so.Took to another label, who then backed out.Went to an FM station in Los Angeles, and played the whole lot to any would-be bootleggers. It all came out in dribs and drabs, sometimes censored,in formats FZ didn't approve, between 1978-79.
Only released after his death,it is startling. It's all here, just about every musical form this most eclectic of composers tried:orchestral, crazed jazz, rock,R+B,silly pop songs, driving guitar, cheesy sexist jokes, deranged spoken word, musique concrete, even a mini-opera("Gregarry Peccary")and some stuff not on the original, scheduled for 1977,"Lather",notably a great live guitar solo ... Bought this for Let it shine, which is usually overlooked on compilations. This is a great disco track that sounds more like Isaac Hayes and Stevie Wonder than Santana. Europa and Dance sister dance are also good.

A mixed bag with side 1 filled with Mothers tracks from 65-69 era only of interest to hardcore fans of this era but with side 2 cherry picked from the excellent 1982 tour. The price of this double set is more than justified by disc 2 whatever you make of disc 1 with highlights including the vibrant 'easy meat' opener and the sublime rendition of 'advance romance'. A fantatic live set curtailed by the ignorant audiences who insisted throwing objects on stage.

I am a huge Zappa fan and this has to be the best album i have ever heard due to the witty tone of Zappa's voice and perhaps the best song has to be "The idiot bastard son". Anybody wanting a fantastic album go and add this to your shopping basket NOW!!!!!.

Music : Radio One
If you don't have at least one Jimi Hendrix album in your CD collection, you really need to rethink your musical priorities. I don't think I need to explain the revolutionary legacy of Hendrix to anyone, so I'll just get right to the content on this particular CD. The year was 1967, and Hendrix's career had just blasted off in the UK, when The Jimi Hendrix Experience (Hendrix, Noel Redding, and Mitch Mitchell) came together for several recording sessions for BBC Radio. You will find a number of Hendrix's most memorable songs in this collection, but they differ from the versions most fans are familiar with. Alongside these more familiar tracks are a number of very interesting covers and blues-oriented recordings, a few of which could and should be considered true rarities.

Excellent 2 CD compilation. Not the usual cheapo rubbish with live tracks in place of the stuff you really want, this is a great 'taster'/Best Of, with 33 tracks in all. The production is excellent too. Very glad I bought this, and would recommend it to anyone, whether new to the band or not.
