Music : Threesome Vol.1: Freak Out/Absolutely Free/We're Only in It for the Money
Many people write off Frank Zappa as a once-relevant satirist; as any true music fan knows they are wrong. Whilst there are periodical references the true beauty of this collection is Frank's glorious guitar work and the wide scope of sound that the Mothers employ.

You MUST buy this album if you wish to listen to one of the greatest musicians ever.

This album was the US edition of the Rolling Stones' second album, which was released in different form in the UK as "The Rolling Stones # 2". Stunningly remastered to produce a quality of sound that renders it barely comprehensible that this is a 1964 album the listener is taken on a roller coaster of a romp through some classic r'n'b covers - "Everybody Needs Somebody To Love", "You Can't Catch Me", "Mona" and a great blues in the iconic "Little Red Rooster". There are also the first efforts of Jagger and Richards at songwriting in the impressive "Heart Of Stone" and the blues-by-numbers of "Off The Hook", "Surprise Surprise" and "What A Shame", inserted in a similar way to the Beatles' originals in "Beatles For Sale". Both this album and ... Read More:

Let's face it, Best of albums are rarely true to their title.
In this case however, we have without doubt, the finest collection of Van Halen's awsome guitar riffs and solos.
Great value for money!!

274.A Sense of Place by: John Mayall

Music : A Sense of Place
This must have been one of John's best records for twenty odd years, a great mix of old blues classics like "Let's Work Together", newer material like J.J. Cale's "Sensitive Kind" and even a reworking of "All of my life" from his 1960s EP with Peter Green/Paul Butterfield. John is supported by guitarist Coco Montoya and Freebo on bass and is joined by guest Sonny Landreth on slide, who contributes his own excellent song "Sugarcane". Great to hear John back on top form and recording for a major label again.

i only bought this album because i heard a song called faultline once in a club, immediately the atmosphere picked up and everyone was dancing! its certainly a song to pull the birds to. because that song was so great with the deep riffs and lovely backing keyboards i was curious to see what the rest was like. yes, it was good but not quite as good as faultline but i guess theres some albums where if one song is superb it deserves a five star. what do you want is also another brilliant song with an emotional keyboard intro.

This CD is an amazing live performance by Jimi Hendrix. Although I love the Woodstock concert, I feel this is a better example of Jimi Live. His playing is more coherent, the sound is better, the band is tighter and the choice of songs are perfect. As usual with Experience Hendrix releases there is an excellent booklet with plenty of information and pictures and the overall packaging is great. 'Stone Free' stands out for me on this CD, but to be honest the whole collection is just superb. If you want to a great example of Jimi's live work then you can't go far wrong with this, well worth a listen.

Yngwie's concert at Poole Arts Centre probably 16 years ago now was the first I'd taken my then 'budding guitarist' son to see. Without doubt, Malmsteen is the best showman rock has ever had since Jimi Hendrix, and this is a fine selection of his works, but there is really nothing better than seeing the man live in concert; it is where he excels, it is where he shines; so where is he now? Perhaps he became tired of having to throw the guitar around his back and catch it again and carry on playing, or throwing his guitar for the roadie to catch, or wearing the Hendrix-style military jacket, or smashing guitars up, or whatever? Perhaps he just became tired of the treadmill rock 'n' roll becomes?
It was only his classical music background which stopped him ... Read More:

The Allman Brothers first few albums are essential for collectors of blues-based rock music. The band blow hot from the first searing notes of lead guitar on 'Don't Want You No More'. This instrumental segues into 'It's Not My Cross To Bear', with virtuoso cameos shared out. What is most impressive is how they maintain a compelling intensity and seething energy across the album. 'Trouble No More', the album's halfway house provides a little relief from this, but the last three tracks pick up the mood again, each distinctive from everything else. The organ-led 'Dreams' is strongly atmospheric and 'Whipping Post' tops everything off superbly. At just thirty-three minutes, this album leaves you hungry for more, which brings us to Idlewild South...

Put on the obscenely patterned hawiian shirt, pour a margarita (or at least an ice cold beer), find a warm place to sit/lie/flop put on the shades and chill. As the man said ..the return of Santo and Johnny - Turbo version. If you don't like this record you must be dead or at least be on very strong medication. I'll say one word .... and that word is TWANG!

Now slam the CD on, throw us a lime and Tequilla and I'm gone. Solid gone.Good price by the way.

I commend this CD to the house.

280.200 Motels by: Frank Zappa

Music : 200 Motels
An off-the wall soundtrack to Zappa's off-the-wall film, this is a collector's curio and a treat for fans of Zappa's early experimentalism.

Like the film, there's little to be found in terms of coherence - it's a somewhat random consideration of a rock band's touring experience. There are a few themes running through the album: "She Painted Up Her Face"; "Squats" and "Shove it . . " repeat the same Vanilla Fudge parody style and the "Tuna Sandwich"/"Holiday in Berlin" themes can be found on other LPs of the time.

What's special about this soundtrack, though, is that it is a distillation of Zappa's eclectisism. We get playing-it-straight rock (Magic Fingers, Mystery Roach) Stravinskian orchestral pomp (Tuna, Mysterioso) pop (Daddy Daddy Daddy is ... Read More:
