Music : Hot Rocks Vol.1 1964-1971
While I am writing a review of this two-CD collection of classic early Stones tracks, Hot Rocks 1964-1971 basically sells itself. You get all of the best songs from one of rock's most successful, long-established groups. These songs are probably older than Keith Richards' wife, but they still stand head and shoulders above most of the music released in the last three decades. On most retrospective collections, people look down the track list and ask why is that song on here or say they don't even remember this or that track. Not so with the Stones' Hot Rocks - each of the 21 song titles is immediately recognizable.

It's great to hear some of the really classic songs any time you want. I'm actually rather sick of Satisfaction ... Read More:

292.Power of the Blues by: Gary Moore

Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Music : Power of the Blues
This is certainly a power blues and is what Gary Moore does best. Whilst he can be superbly melodic blues he can also rock out as he does during his live performance where his true energy gets released. Standout tracks Memory Pain and Theres a hole are superb with the others well nested around them.

A real punchy rocker

Get it cranked up for best results.

293.The Essential Collection by: Marc Bolan & T. Rex

T Rex are a band from my youth. Imagine my surprise when I put this on in the car and the kids started singing along.
How could they have even heard of Marc Bolan. Then it hit me.... Just how many of these
great songs are used in adverts or as background music in films and TV programmes.

Great album... a must for any Bolan or T Rex fans.. old and young.

He released Journeyman which was cool and then...as far as an original album of material goes there was Pilgrim and then this. Now, Pilgrim was full of strong songs that were poorly (or overly) produced by Simon Climie. This album has fairly weak material that Mr Climie seems to have had sound more natural. Which is a shame because the songs on Pilgrim are so much stronger and ones that Eric really cared about. Even worse, Back Home, the follow up in terms of a 'normal' Clapton album, was not only weak in terms of songs, but those 'orrible production values were back in the fray. In this sense, apart from Me and Mr Johnson, this is the best Eric Clapton album in years.
Its an interesting concept involving Eric's upbringing (Reptile being a term ... Read More:

I was somewhat sceptical upon hearing that MOR stalwart Sammy Hagar was replacing Diamond Dave in Van Halen as I thought that they'd change direction. That isn't the case on this belter of an album, some really good tunes like Cabo Wabo,Sucker in a 3 Piece, Feels so Good & others i cannot remember the title of.All in all a pretty good transition from 1984 via 5150!

I feel that this album is very underrated, tracks like Hang Fire/Worried about you and Neighbours are not given enough credit and little T N A is one of Keefs best.
Also waiting on a friend is a classic.

If you appreciate fine song writing, dazzling guitar playing and sublime vocals then why have you not purchased this excellent 2 cd set from one of the greatest British artists ever? This compliation really does offer extra ordinary value and there is not a dud song in site. And yes, it does contain songs from THAT live album (which of course is timeless but for too many people, thats all they have ever heard by Peter Frampton). This compliation is an Aladdin's cave of the very best of Mr Frampton and is proof that he made consistently fine music during his long career. The fact that it is remastered also enhances the listening pleasure so what are you doing reading this??!! Add to your basket now without further hesitation. Trust me on this one!

Very much an obscure album.
Difficult to really get into.
No where to run & neuve york stand out as good tracks.
As does Warrior.
But the album for me, never was really going anywhere, and if it was, somehow lost the plot about a third way in.
However, you can salvage just one or two good track from this rather strange album.

Whoever Jeff Bateman is, I think we can ignore his assertion that Coverdale is a 'third-rate Plant'. For one thing, Coverdale's range was greater than Percy's, even from his Burn debut. For another, he is closer to Rodgers as a singer anyway. And let's also add that the Whitesnake songwriting template owes more to Lizzy, Free/Bad Co, and Purple (doh, wonder why that is...), than to Zeppelin. Slow an' Easy and Still of the Night owe something to Zep, admittedly, but the latter borrows a lot more from Purple's Rat Bat Blue than from Black Dog. Lyrically, though, Planty has shown a lot more breadth and imagination than Coverdale, whose lyrics on the new Whitesnake album are at times quite appalling! And Plant's stage presentation is classier - he certainly swears a lot less... ... Read More:
