I was always on the lookout for a definitive Ry Cooder Album - one that captures the essence of his style. This record is just that. Great production, evocative, it takes you from the everglades to downtown New Orleans whilst passing through Texas on the way. A beautiful journey that has to be experienced in a particular mood. It is, in short, the perfect complement to Bop till you drop. Some of the songs are a little indulgent but so is a bottle of fine red wine. A must for anyone into slide guitar and the possibilities.

Blues music enjoyed a mini-revival in the late 1980s owing to both the film 'Crossroads', and the dissatisfaction of a sizeable minority with contemporaneous popular music. Gary Moore, hitherto a performer of hard rock/heavy metal, exploited the mood with this motley collection of blues pastiches and hard rock songs. 'The blues' are, for the most part, transmogrified into 'the blands' - the raw, visceral nature of blues music is expunged, and a smooth, over-produced sound offered in its place.

The vocals of Gary Moore lack the passion, intensity and emotiveness of a blues performer, and the drone of his guitar suggests that he is more at home with his 1980s metal counterparts. The title track, the antithesis of blues music, ... Read More:

All blues and every track has character and fire. Some of Clapton's very best work on the guitar I think. If you like EC in blues mode you'll love it.

I'd never bought anything before purely 'cause Amazon recommended it. I'd always heard some of the stuff by the artist or seen them on TV somewhere. I was oblivious to SRV though so I popped it on my 'Wish List' while I mulled over the pros and cons. All of the reviews were very positive drawing comparisons to Hendrix. I was curious and attracted to this man described as a seminal blues guitar hero so I summoned up the courage and added it to an order to make up my £15 for free delivery.

What a treat! Deep southern blues done with sincerity and affection. Innovative and fluid guitar work, beautiful rich tones, solid riffs. It's very much a one man band, bass and drums add squat, but what a man. The bonus live tracks are great too and, once you're ... Read More:

This fabulous and very reasonably priced collection contains all The Rolling Stones' Decca (UK) and London (USA) single A- and B-sides. If they originally appeared on 45 in mono (the vast majority) they're in mono here - apart from Honky Tonk Women for some reason. The 2002 remasters finally do justice to this material on CD - they sound fabulous.

The 60s A-sides (with the arguable exception of their debut, Come On) are uniformly brilliant, surprisingly varied and superbly produced, especially after they began recording in the USA; the B-sides, with only 1 or 2 exceptions, are good to excellent. There is surprisingly little overlap with albums (especially UK ones) and where there is, several tracks are in otherwise unobtainable mono. Really, until about ... Read More:

This was just about the last of the original MOI albums("Weasels" was released after they and FZ split)and it is my all time favourite album, not just by FZ but by anybody.
Two covers of 1950s doowop(WPLJ and Valarie)are the bread, the sandwich is the remainder, fantastic instrumentals showing both the Mothers in full flight(mostly in the studio, but some bits,ie the guitar solo in "Holiday in Berlin Full Blown",spliced in from live shows),FZ's blossoming as a guitarist, and lastly his abilities as a composer and bandleader.Highlights are hard to pick out as the music is so good, but "Holiday In Berlin Full Blown","Aybe Sea"(a rare example of FZ playing auocustic guitar)and the piano solo followed by the full force of the MOI at the begining of "Little House I Used To Live In". ... Forget heavy metal and led zepplin - Jeff has more balls in his little finger than all all the 'great' guitar players except than perhaps Jimi himself. Pure testosterone. The perfect driving music - no speed limit.

Jeff can change from thumping rock distortion to beautiful haunting bends and swoops - in pitch perfect highs and lows. Not to go through the tracks one by one - but this is Jeff hitting a high he has hinted at all his career. Never one to copy old riffs and cliches - he has been a unique talent ever since he picked up a 6 string. It's a change to see an artist not go down the commercial route just for the money.. No Frog Songs or Wonderful Tonights - just great guitar.

I bought this for my daughter-ahemm-on her 11th birthday because of the 'Billy Elliot' effect.
She hummed 'We love to boogie' so much we boughtn this hoping she would play it out but we found ourselves quietly-cough-singing along and knowing more of the words than we expected or were prepared to rpeviously admit we knew.
A good basic compialtion to have in your collection if you like the Seventies-Life on Mars went some way to gettin my husband and I to forgive the terrible wrongs the era did us and the selection is better than you'd think.
Really it needs to be spread over the two albums as there are more hits than you think along with songs you don't know and enough variety that might make you buy some of T-rex's other albums.
All in all a good buy, now we ... Read More:

I happened to see an advert for this release a couple of years back proclaiming that "PW" was the third and final [sic] installment of the 'Harvest Trilogy'...
A desparate marketing ploy [ but no more shady than trying to imply that the Massey Hall Dvd was actually filmed at that particular concert however!] OH FRIEND OF MINE: Don't believe this nonsense..
Prairie Wind ain't no Harvest Moon, let alone Harvest. It is however, a possible contender for the 3rd installment in Neils most boring albums, nr 1 being Re-Ac-Tor and nr 2 Everybody's Rockin.
