Since Jimmy Smith died in February 2005. I thought it would be respectful to give something back for the great albumn he has created. He is a great Jazz electric Organ player(you dont get many of those knockin around do you)He starts of the tune with a very rhythmical riff that sounds almost country western you just want to start dancing to it. Then comes in the tune with the great Stanley Turrentine. The picture on the front is amazingly cool and just says so much about the albumn, modest calm new and funky. If you have got a few minutes of spare time buy the album and listen to back at the chicken shack it will put a smile on your face.

It doesn't get any better: gorgeous, lush strings; rich vocals, and top notch songs by first class songwriters. This album is one of the most pleasurable listening experiences I've enjoyed in ages. Shirley Horn's voice is like fine chocolate, and Bill Henderson offers warm, comfortable readings of his choices of song. And don't miss the final track on the album, when Charlie Haden himself sings "Wayfaring Stranger" in a most understated, heartfelt mode.

That is what the commentry at the back of this record says and it is hard to disagree.

This is a great introduction to the great mans music, if you like Jazz Funk and Soulful vocals over Jazzy Grooves this is for you.

Probably the most know song on this collection is Dominoes, but to be honest I think every song is great. My personal stand outs are You and Music, Think Twice and Wind Parade.

Just enjoy.

A Love Supreme is always the first Coltrane album to buy and, although there are many albums better suited for someone dipping their toe in the murky jazz waters in the hope of finding something to play at a dinner party, Meditations should follow on soon after. This is Coltrane's second master piece (the third is Ascension). It follows on from the Love Supreme sides in the canon of Coltrane's quest for devotional music and belies the concept that meditation should only ever be something done to the drifting sound of twee flutes. This is Coltrane searching passionately for the spiritual, looking for answers rather than waiting for them to drop in his lap. Consequently, this is music that demands that you listen - that you focus on the depth ... Read More:

77.Kind of Blue by: Miles Davis
March 25, 1997
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Music : Kind of Blue
I can understand why fans of Davis' jazz fusion, jazz rock and electric stuff may find this bland since it was recorded before he decided to explore that newer territory (which I find weird and disappointing). It represents just one part of his journey from the Rhumboogie Orchestra in 1944, via bop and Gill Evans, to the synthesizer-enhanced(?) din he was making towards the end of his career. Only a few days after this session was recorded Coltrane cut "Giant Steps", which is a fair indication of the direction he was a taking.

However, for me and thousands of others this is a beautiful record, with all the musicians performing at their (then) peak. Even Coltrane makes a beautiful sound and they all swing mightily when that is appropriate to the mood of ... Read More:

This is one of those hynotic early sixties Blue Note sessions that must surely go down as one of Jazz's masterpieces. This was recorded as a dedication to Silver's Japanese fans and the reception his band received whilst on tour there.
We start with the kicking,"Too much Sake." It's Silver's agility and sense of tempo, omnipresent on all his recordings that mark his music out. This track is another classic example.
Then we come to, "Sayonara Blues," for me one of the greatest pieces of music in Jazz. Witness the way Silver builds the tempo from a single starting note, his relentless control of the tempo through two admirable solos from Mitchell and Cook and then his own beautiful arching solo that breaks through the rhythm of the track. It's a transcendal ... Read More:

A stunning showcase of Hubbard's talents. For someone so young this serves as an excellent taste of what he was to become. His ranging, harmonic and sometimes downright belligerant style has always entranced me. For me this is his greatest record as a leader, the younster setting out to show eveyone what he has to offer. This record is littered with those characteristic barnstorming solos and his ability of more subtle playing on,"But Beautiful." There's a bit of everything on this from the skipping, jumpy, Horace Silveresque,"Gypsy Blue," to the classy sophisticated,"One mint Julep." Tina Brook's title track really swings. Brook's career disappeared into nothing beacause of his heroin addiction, this record shows what a wasted talent he was both as a great sax player and ... Read More:

80.World Tour by: Joe Zawinul
May 18, 1998
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

>>More Details
Music : World Tour
Having found all of Zawinul's post-Weather Report albums a bit lukewarm & sterile I was overjoyed when I heard "World Tour". This is exactly how the Zawinul Syndicate is supposed to sound: pieces like "Slivovitz Trail" and "Bimoya" were made for this kind of groove-driven funkin' performance.
Just take "Bimoya" and the fabulous "N'Awlins" from disc one and you'll have a set of songs that won't be surpassed by any jazz-funk you'll ever hear. Add "Patriots", "Indiscretions", "Slivovitz Trail" and "Two Lines" and you'll have a ready-made best-of-jazz-funk album. (To be honest, "Two Lines" is the only track on this album that sounded better in the studio version, but the live version here is still good enough to deserve its place.) In fact, there's only one weak track on the ... Read More:
