"Appetite for Destruction" was the first `metal' album I ever heard, and it changed my life immediately. I actually first heard it while on stage in a school play. It's a strange story, and probably more interesting if I leave it at that. I actually heard it at a time when I didn't think there was any music I liked. This is the latest offering from Black Metal's answer to Bros and my god, it's fantastic! It's everything you'd expect from Satyricon - dark and melodic, brutal yet poetic. I think that it's the perfect follow up to Now Diabolical and a must for any would-be fan. The 2 disc edition has some pretty fabulous extras on it too which span some of the band's back catalogue. A superb album. Put it on your Christmas lists and you won't be sorry!

I was ready to write it off after a first listen..only Chelsea Smile stood out, but having revisited it a few more times there is more depth to it than I initially thought. Chelsea Smile is probably, no, for me, definitely the best thing BMTH have done..There are a few tracks that don't quite cut it and the mix is odd in places, vocals too far back in the overall sound. It's probably worth a 3 and a half, but I'm in a generous mood.

Its probably fair to say that this is the one album that sits in just about every self respecting rock fans collection, whether they, like me, were knocking about on its original release, or for younger enthusiasts have bought it for its historical value. This mk2 version of Purple, benefiting from the addition of Ian Gillan's wonderful vocal range (my daughter calls him 'the voice') and Roger Glover's excellent bass and knowledge of musical arrangements, kicked off with an album that not only became the first example of genuine 'hard rock', but unlike some other bands also allowed the depth of their music to shine through. If I had to burn my rock CD collection but were aloud to keep a handful, I know that Meatloaf's "Bat Out Of Hell" would be one of albums that i'd save straight away. This album is just pure genius and one cannon't fail to be surprised when knowing that it's still a bestseller even today, three decades after it was first released. Awesome songs, awesome album, do yourself a favour and buy it!

This was the first time I had heard the Libera group as I was sent the CD as a gift. To begin with I really didn't care for some of the music - remember I hadn't heard this style of choral singing before and it took a bit of getting used to, but I sat down on Saturday and listened right through and by the time it was finished I was hooked. I loved the setting of Bach's Air on a G String in particular, and then right at the end the performances of Blake's Little Lamb and the In Paradisum are exquisite. This is a very fine choir matching in quality the Westminster Cathedral choristers, and I really can't recommend the disk too highly.

Is Great Expectations listening to the same CD as everyone else that has rightly given this CD 5 stars - he is correct in that you had to be there - and I was on many occasions and then later the inferior White Snake & Rainbow -as stated by many this is arguably the best live recording ever made - no contest as far as I'm concerned.- the interplay between Lord & Blackmore - and the pulsating rhythm section is incredible! Others can only aspire!

"The Number Of The Beast" is an absolute classic, a landmark album in music/rock/metal history. And this reissue is an absolute disaster, with the classic cover printed in wrong colors, and the audio victimized by the infamous "loudness war" (Google the expression if you don't know what it means), with the music having been turned into one big mass of distorted noise. I did a full audio analysis of the whole album and just can't understand how the band's label could have let this precious material fall into the hands of inept audio engineers capable of producing something this amateurish. I wonder if the band had any say in these "enhanced" releases. Avoid this thing and buy an older, non-enhanced and non-remastered CD edition of the album if you want to hear how this masterpiece is really ... Read More:

Firstly, I wouldn't generally bother writing a review about anything. The fact that I've bothered here should say a little about the quality of this album. I feel I owe it to the boys for creating the best album of this decade. When I first heard Burn The Witch nearer the start of this year, I was actually very disappointed. I must say, I'm not a big fan of that song at all. I almost didn't bother persuing Stone Gods at this point but I'm so glad I did! My Highlights: You Brought A Knife To A Gunfight - What a fantastic song! The chorus will make you smile. And, let's face it, this absolutely rocks.
