Songs taken from the DTV movie "Maximum Overdrive" , this is a mixed bag from the Aussie classic rockers . There are a couple of instrumentals , of average quality , a few more rocky numbers , fairly satisfying , and ( criminally ) only one Bon Scott track - the bluesy "Ride On" .

The numbers include some real classics , such as "For Those About To Rock" and "Hells Bells" .

Personally , given a choice again , I would rather buy a Greatest Hits package than this - all of these songs , and more .

Thin Lizzy has always been big because they are one of the most famous rock bands and the fact that they are Irish and that type of hype never appeals to me it's happend to bands like U2 & Snow Patrol, and they arn't as good as everyone says they are. But Thin Lizzy are a great irish rock n roll band. Made famour by their songs The Boys are back in town & Whiskey In The Jar, they are more then just those 2 awesome songs. This album for example, all the songs are excellent and some brilliant rock n roll riffs.With classics likes Jailbreak, Angel From The Coast & of course The Boys Are Back In Town. This is a brilliant way to start with Thin Lizzy if you're curious about the band, you will already know The Boys are Back In Town so you ... Read More:

Like other reviewers, I saw Rory at a festival and was hooked. It was Woburn Abbey in 1968 and we had already had our ears reamed by a quite dreadful performance by Hendrix - out of tune (horribly), out of time (woefully), perfunctory, noisy, uninspired. In fact, I wonder if the Great God was like this on stage more often than not. Anyway, on the Sunday evening on came Taste and just blew Hendrix and his foul noise away - and I was very far from the only one to think that although few would admit it today since Hendrix has been canonised.

I went to see the band at the Marquee very shortly after that (Rory, Norman Damery and Eric Kitteringham) and Rory told me that they had done a few sessions and had one single on the Irish Major Minor label - Blister ... Read More:

Well the Flame still burns as bright as it ever did, the Master Musician has riffed the Stratocaster into the Stratosphere.*
* *
*The album starts of with a nice classically influenced movement, then all hell is unleashed, with riffs and solo's flying from the fingers of Yngwie. The album is well and truly in flames by the time you get to the second track, and this is maintained throughout the whole musical journey that is Perpetual Flame.*
*Some notable changes come through the speakers by the time you get to /MAGIC CITY. The bluesy feel is enhanced by sitars and the whole psychedelic feel is mindblowing. This has to be without doubt one of the best tracks Yngwie has ever done, the pure Magic from the Wizards Fret board of that track is spellbinding./* ... Read More:

I bought this when it was first released on vinyl and video...and it is just as impeccable now. One of the greatest tours from one of the greatest bands, this gig stands the test of time and countless....and I DO mean countless....viewings. Metal at its finest.

Best album of the past ten years - I'm serious.

'Slipknot' crystalises all that is good about hardcore metal. I've loved this kind of stuff from the mid 80s, all the way from Celtic Frost through Naplam Death in the Lee Dorian days to 90s death metal. Great stuff that's always scratched an itch for me.

But nothing brings it all together like this album. It just gets everything so... RIGHT. The combination of emotion - raw aggresion, rage and a bit of humour - with melodies, awesome percussion, theatricality is spot on and quickly gets under your skin. Nothing quite else really comes close to making it all work so well. Vocals, riffs, samples - everything is just in the right place.

This is a truely stunning set of tracks that brings a smile ... Read More:

I felt compelled to review this after seeing a magazine article really running this down in the band's discography! I was originally into Metal in the very early 80's, then I wandered into the wilderness (ie had a brief fling with Electro) before wiseing up in 1986 and returning to Metal FOREVER! A MATE PLAYED ME THIS ALBUM - AND IT WAS THIS THAT BROUGHT ME BACK!
The songs are good (the magazine article claims not a single good riff??!!) and the riffs ARE GOOD! Just listen to the title track, or Shake Your Foundations, and say otherwise. Solos aren't the very best, neither perhaps is the bass work, but both are more than adequate. The drums are massive in typical 80s Big Snare Sound style, and together with a harder rhythm guitar sound (Send For The Man) take the album more into out ... Read More:

First off i'm not saying this is a bad album it is good it has some wicked tracks like The Wolf Is Loose, Crystal Skull, Sleeping Giant, Colony Of Birchmen & Siberian Divide thats all i really like on this album the rest aint that great. I just dont think it's as good everyone is making it out to be and bladcatcher that has got to be the most pointless song ever. Everyone saying it's a progressive metal masterpiece it's not that good. So i'd if you're a Mastodon fan buy if you're curious about the band buy it. Maybe i need to listen to it alot more right now i just dont see what all the fuss is about the album. The tracks i mentioned are awesome and worth the money for them.
