it's ridiculous how much this album is slated. People seem unable to appreciate OutKast without comparing this to their old work. The fact is that they managed to combine hiphop with a range of musical styles AND IT WORKS. There's no need to give examples, cos cases can be made for all the songs. Admittedly there are songs which seem to be dwarfed by the rest, but that just shows the strength of the other songs. people say they gave this album one listen and couldn't do it again. their loss. Speakerboxxx/Love Below takes a few listens to fully appreciate, but once you do, you won't regret it

Having loved the album Silent Shout i thought i would give this a try. The difference between Deep Cuts and Silent Shout is night and day. Silent Shout was much more darker and yet Deep Cuts is lighter and much more upbeat.Some of the songs are hit and miss. For me Heartbeats,Take my Breath away and Is it Medicine are best, with The Cop and Hanging out being complete turnoffs.In my opinion Deep Cuts isn't as good as Silent Shout but still worth buying.

...........but somehow I got to hear this album in the early/mid nighties - possibly through Guru's association with the jazz guitarist Ronny Jordan who features on this disc. Jazzmatazz vol.1 and the subsequent Jazzmatazz albums seem to elevate themselves out of the regular bitching of rap and hip hop through some excellent songs with great song structure, melodies and variety. Whether this is due to Guru, who it has to be said is really 'into himself' as demonstrated by a number of self penned narratives on how good he is on both this and other jazzmatazz albums or whether it is some of the exceelent contributors that appear throughout the record. Pros: - If you're an IT fan it's a pro that he doesn't change his style of delivery or style of content for this album, more of what you're used to - So yeah, not many can match the sheer ferocity of IT's delivery, he could probably make a nursery rhyme sound threatening and hard core. - Some fresh beats, I especially love the grimy mood set by Death March, and the hidden track Rebel Arms at the end. - Again, no pointless, directionless tracks - Some more grimy wordplay, funny similes etc..
