Hype is a legend but the tunes on this mix are utter drivel. This is mainstream d'n'b at it's worst and conjours up images of 16 year olds jumping around with their lighters in the air - which I guess is the target market.

Ringtone D'n'B because that's where the majority of the tunes here belong - as little 30 second clips announcing receipt of a text message - completely disposable, soul-less jump-up trash.

I heard a documentary on the radio about Soul II Soul, and greatly enjoyed it so bought this album.
And it starts brightly enough with 'Keep On Movin', a great slab of soul.
'Fair Play' dips a bit, and then the horrors of Jazzie's singing, or is it rapping, appear.
Track 5 clearly took less time to record than it takes to play, with some ghastly jazz flute-playing.
Just as you think to yourself "Well, at least I'll never hear any more jazz flute" then another song uses it some more.
And when finally we reach "Back To Life", it's an acapella version.
Why anyone would even suggest this, never mind have the rest of the team shout "Good idea!", I cannot understand.
The album was already underweight: butchering ... Read More:

If you see anything published by the previous reviwer who dismisses this becuase he doesn't like it; don't bother reading it. You can't produce the history of something only from the bits of it you like. That's like missing out on the big bang when writing about the historty of the universe.

This early Chicago house was the start of a collosal movement that went worldwide and is still around twenty years later (at time of writing).

Sure it sounds dated now, but in the clubs in the late eighties (not early nineties that scarygeorge says) this was tremendously ground breaking and we danced our shoes off to this stuff. From hearing the first Jack Your Body and Love Can't Turn Around many of us were in the record shops on Saturdays ... Read More:

Craig David says he leaves the production side of completing an album to someone else; I would tell you who that is but the writing is so small in the sleeve notes that my aged eyes can't read it! What I can say though is that whoever did it, they did a great job. It's near-on immaculate, and this is such an important part of the final outcome yet many people possibly take it for granted. Anyway, the SQ is superb, and the even better news is that the quality of the song-writing and the delivery of all fourteen songs is superb. It's almost too good, but that wouldn't make sense as a criticism. 'Hypnotic' is a stand-out but to be fair the album as a whole is of a very high standard. I can't think of a single track that I would want to skip, it's all good ... Read More:

Funky trippy jazzy electronica. That's about all it takes to sum up Moloko's colorful debut "Do You Like My Tight Sweater?", which never stops with the wild sounds and cool bizarrity. Whether mixing airy organ with drum'n'bass or dipping into acid jazz, there is never a dull moment here.

"I dreamt that I was dreaming, I was wired to a clock,/Tickled by the minute hand tick tock tick tock," intones Roisin Murphy in a weird, robotic voice. Behind her is a swirl of piano and funky dancebeats, occasionally straying off into mellow electronic tones. And that's just one song.

In the songs that follow, Murphy and her bandmate Mark Brydon alternate bizarre electronica with weird little skits (like "Tight Sweater," which is just Murphy asking ... Read More:

I've been a big fan of the Plumps in the past, Saturday Night Lotion was excellent (a good precursor to the current electro sound), whilst a Plump Night Out is still a classic, as is their Fabric mix and Eargasm was good too (despite a couple of duff tracks). So with that in mind I approached this album with some anticipation. Unfortunately it's a big disappointment, the Plumps have tried to change direction a bit and make it more song based. It's a commendable idea but it doesn't come off, and whilst there a couple of good tracks, "System Addict" being the best, but overall it's rather forgettable, except for some of the vocals which are a bit grating. My recommendation would be to download "System Addict" and then check out some of their earlier work instead.

I bought this album on its release in 1989 and it remains the best album New Order have ever made. It's hard to believe this was released 18 years ago and it still stands up well today, the best tracks being the brilliant Mr.Disco and Round and Round. The remaining tracks are also very good, indeed there's not a weak track to be found here.
Highly recommended.

Like many Putumayo compilations, the tracks here are a well-chosen collection of top-quality material from local artists. However, with all of Latin America to choose from, the Putumayo people have outdone themselves this time. Every track is a superb piece of atmospheric down-tempo pop with a rich Latin flavour. It's one of the very few albums I can't imagine every getting sick of - perfect as background music and also well worthy of more attentive listening. If you like modern Latin music and only ever buy one Putumayo compilation (and I've bought lots) get this.
