Elbow have written and performed some of the best music this century (IMO). Beautiful ballads & catchy tunes, Favourite Tracks: Fugitive Motel & Grace Under Pressure

My music tastes usually have to include talented musical playing ability i.e.Porcupine Tree, Keith Jarrett, Jimi Hendrix, Weather Report etc so it unusual for me to rave about an album based on singing and harmony vocals but the Fleet Foxes have given me an album that I have not enjoyed so much for years. I dont do a bundle on singers apart from Jeff Buckley,Thom Yorke, early Neil Young and Lowell George but the phrasing of the vocals on these delightful songs really hit the spot. Could be too mellow for some but on further and repeated listening it is ever so rewarding. Im raving to my friends(those with musical taste) so much about the Fleet Foxes that I feel the need to write my first ever review. Buy this album now.

Great imaginative album. Only fails to get 5 stars from me due to a truly terrible track (Stork & Owl) which is so bland and anonymous it can't even be called a filler. Even this doesn't detract from me rating a very special album very highly

I can't believe I bought this. When I first heard the Ting Ting's I thought they were dreadful. It sounded like really naff cheesy pop. And it is, but it's also very catchy and I have to admit I like it. The more I hear it the more it grows on me. It's not cool to like it, but that doesn't mean it's not okay to like it. It's just probably best not to admit it to people when you first meet them. That's Not My Name is probably the best pop tune of the year for me.

Hopes & fears was a great start for Keane with the anthemic 'Bedshaped' set forever to be the closer to every concert. 'Under the iron sea' was a huge leap forward all round & set the bar almost impossibly high for whatever was to follow. what follows is 'perfect symmetry' a sideways move into pop & slower ballads. With the former, for my money, Keane have messed up big time. Spiralling is an awful mess of a pop tune with more than a hint of one of those godawful one hit wonder bands with a synth & some high pitched singer who could go 'whooo'. After some inspired lyrics on the iron sea this was a lousy start! Things improve with 'the lovers are losing' which, while having a catchy line, avoids the dreaded 'pop' badge and stays in the memory. ... Read More:

I've been an Oasis fan since I was 11 - I'm now 24 - and agree with the previous reviewer re: people's expectations. Oasis are never going to suddenly completely change their style to try and please fickle magazine critics. They know what their fans like and they know what works for them. That's not to say Dig Out Your Soul is identical to previous albums, it does have plenty of new ideas and sounds - try listening for all the different sound effects they use in the songs. They're older, wiser and it shows in the lyrics. Liam in particular is really developing as a songwriter. I'm Outta Time is one of my favourites on the album, along with The Shock of the Lightning, the opener Bag It Up, (Get Off Your) High Horse Lady, Falling Down, Ain't Got Nothin' and To Be Where There's ... i cant believe i hear this album now! having recently bought the brilliant Leaders Of The Free World I wanted to discover Elbow. Then I listened to Cast Of Thousands next which i included in my top 10 album list. but then I listened to this album and I was totally knocked off my feet! I just love it. this is music! reading other reviews I was deeply dissapointed they were compared to other bands. some of the reviews which compare elbow to say coldplay would have put off buying this record. If u like music then get all the albums by Elbow. Another band I thought I should recommend is I Am Kloot.

This is worth having out of historic interest alone, much like Cut the Crap, although it is rather better than Cut the Crap. The songs all seem to be too fast, like they're desperately trying to get offstage asap. I'd seen them on the Combat Rock tour a few months earlier in the UK, and whilst that was better, they were well past their peak. But From here to eternity instead.
