I've never been one for the jazz themed white noise thrashouts so beloved of Mr Pierce, but always loved the droney cathedral rock of his earlier days (which I appreciate is just as unmusical to some ears - I absolutely love Pure Phase). Ladies and Gentlemen is undoubtedly his masterpiece (jazz themed white noise thrashouts notwithstanding), but why oh why did I not buy a second copy and keep the first fresh in its pill box? Anyway, post L&G the work declined. Some decent stuff on Let it come down, but I didn't bother with Amazing Grace. This is a return to form. I have both of Paramores albums, and have to say that this one is my favourite. Its a brilliant album from start to finish, anyone who likes rock/punk kind of music will really enjoy this. Tracks that stand out are "All we know", "Emergency", and a more quiet song "Franklin". Seriously if you havent heard Paramore, then you have to give this a try, you won't be dissappointed!!

This album proved that Radiohead could produce excellent radio friendly rock music. It is full of brilliant songs. My favourites - Fake Plastic Trees, High & Dry and Street Spirit. Thom Yorke's bleak lyrics we have become so familiar with are present in here but perhaps not as obvious as in the later albums due to the strength of Greenwood's guitar in most tracks. It seems as though the band proved to themselves with this album that they could do the "Britpop" album. You have to admire them for moving on the "The Bends", which was very successful, to the more challenging directions taken in later albums. However this album stands on its own as a classic in its own right.

You gotta admit that this is the business when a quintet of South Londoners ignored the whole punk thing and got down to making music in the style of the 60s and 70s.Especially the 70s when Wings ruled. They said Difford & Tilbrook were the new Lennon & McCartney-thats the bands built in songwriting unit but though many times they were as good there were no takers for their songs other than their own original versions. Maybe Squeeze should do a covers album as Difford & Tilbrook make their own albums either solo or collectively. Maybe somebody should do a tribute album-with so much variety the songs could easily be done 50s style. Although the band still manage to create great songs and sounds it was during the 1980s that they arguably produced some of their best work and indeed, created some of the songs of all time which made the band the worldwide phenomenon they are today. Songs like Pride, With or with out you, I still haven't found what I'm looking for and Where the streets have no name are now iconic and serve to represent what was a golden era for U2 and the music world in general. Even if your not bothered about the B sides this compilation is simply brilliant and well worth owning. For me it should be in any music lovers collection. Hide and Seek is literally the best song I have heard this year - brilliant use of a vocorder and a fantastic vocal performance. I've recently upgraded to a decent separates system on my stereo and this is the song to test it out too. Really, really, beautiful.

Only you know your musical tastes and what you like in performers. I have the most eclectic tastes in music imaginable. KT Tunstall gives it all you could ever want from this genre. Simply outstanding on all levels.

Joshua Tree was made at a time when the band weren't as wrapped up in their own importance, or maybe before we had noticed it. It is full of the earnestness that has become their trademark. In later albums this became too forced for this cynic's liking at least. The album is full of memorable songs, perhaps Trip through your Wires is the weakest one but all the others cry out for repeated listening. Bono is perhaps the ultimate lead singer, making himself the centre of attention with his performances and lyrics. However a song like "Mothers of the Dissappeared" makes you believe that his heart is certainly in the right place. Potential....a word written about various England sportsman..a gloriously English way to bury young talent...enough about sport....this is the Mystery Jets review!!! After the chaotic sixties prog of their debut LP this is a major suprise,eighties synths,whip cracking snares and slap-bass tumble from the speakers alongside distorted piano chords....are the magpies at play?? But it works....again, these guys have the potential to be the best band on this island....,the melodies are strong enough to smother the smell of some opportunist musical snatch n grabs.
