I, like many others, have Jools Holland to thank for exposing me to the talent that is Richard Hawley. When I say talent, I mean it in the true sense of the word - Hawley is a unique talent, who is still not receiving the proper recognition for his consistently high quality output.

Having set the bar high with this album's predecessor "Coles Corner" I, like some here, initially felt this album didn't quite match it. A few listens later and how wrong am I? This is every bit as good, if not even better.

Some say old fashioned, I say classic; we have all but lost the institution that was the quality independent record shop on your High Street. Richard Hawley is the equivelant of your favourite old record shop, against ... Read More:

This is even better than the first soundtrack and i love every single song. Very pleased to see Bethany's Halo on here, that girl needs to release an album of her own soon. Other highlights are songs by Nada Surf, Jacks Mannequin and Fall Out Boy, who all have guest starred in One Tree Hill. My personal favourite would be recurring guest star Tyler Hiltons cover of 'Missing you', it is truly amazing and i am now a great fan of Tyler Hilton based purely on his efforts in this series as he isn't well known in the UK.

What an opener - listen to 'Get Innocuous' as loud as you can! And the album keeps the standard up throughout - 'Us v them' being another pinnacle. A classic.

I was outraged - simply outraged - to discover that this band were named after Linda Kasabian, one of the murderers of Sharon Tate, and member of the Manson family. How dare these northern tykes pay tribute to someone of her monstrous calibre? They should be ashamed of themselves, and their parents, and their parents' parents.

I ask you, what is next? I bet some band will even name themselves 'Manson', and I also bet they'll be so uneducated that they can't even spell the word. Give me clean, wholesome bands like the Beach Boys any day, especially that delightful 20/20 album.

I came across Sarah after hearing the stunning 'Full of Grace' on Buffy. That song is beautiful, and I loved it so much I tracked down the rest of her work to find something as good. Sadly, none of her songs quite compare. However, this album is, quite simply, a work of art. I had heard great things about FTE and Surfacing, and whilst they are both great, they are genius in some places and simply ok in others. Afterglow, however, was amazing. It is her most consistent work- every track on here is pure gold and incredibly distinctive, something Sarah's earlier work lacks as most of the tracks seemed to bumble along, blending together. Not so on the gorgeously mature Afterglow. It took me only two or three listens to put this up there in my top five albums. ... Read More:

When I saw Billy Bragg on tour recently he described himself as a 'Marmite artist', ie, you either love him or hate him. I don't know that is necessarily true. My husband somewhat reluctantly bought this for me for Christmas a few years ago after I'd requested it on the strength of the handful of Bragg songs that I knew from my teens (Sexuality, New England, Waiting for the Great Leap Forward).
Neither myself or my hubby really knew enough about BB from those few songs to understand what an amazing artist he really is. I reckon that there are a few people out there who are in that same position and this review, like the album, is for you. This is a great place to start on your Bragg conversion because it will give you a taste of the diversity of Billy's ... Read More:

To be honest, I did not think much of "Who Killed..." A couple of catchy pop tunes, for sure, but it was "bubble gum" music for the most part. This album remains true to the band's sense of having fun with their music, but it has a much more confident sound and the production is much improved. Touring the States with The Killers also seems to have rubbed off on how the band now sounds. Moreover, to their credit, the record again romps home in just over 40 minutes.

The themes are varied and frequently concern the more mundane aspects of life - the stress of taking public transport to work ("Tired of Hanging Around"), why good nights out always end in miserable hangovers the next day ("It's the Little Things We Do"), or getting over a relationship ("How Does ... I bought this album as I knew bits of the Foos but hadn't really listened to them before. The music is brilliant in parts but vocals a bit too "shouty" for my taste personally.
