Joshua Tree was made at a time when the band weren't as wrapped up in their own importance, or maybe before we had noticed it.
It is full of the earnestness that has become their trademark. In later albums this became too forced for this cynic's liking at least.

The album is full of memorable songs, perhaps Trip through your Wires is the weakest one but all the others cry out for repeated listening.

Bono is perhaps the ultimate lead singer, making himself the centre of attention with his performances and lyrics. However a song like "Mothers of the Dissappeared" makes you believe that his heart is certainly in the right place.
The Edge's guitar drives the songs forward again and again and Adam and Larry ... Read More:

Potential....a word written about various England sportsman..a gloriously English way to bury young talent...enough about sport....this is the Mystery Jets review!!!

After the chaotic sixties prog of their debut LP this is a major suprise, eighties synths, whip cracking snares and slap-bass tumble from the speakers alongside distorted piano chords....are the magpies at play??

But it works....again, these guys have the potential to be the best band on this island....,the melodies are strong enough to smother the smell of some opportunist musical snatch n grabs.

As a whole, this could a 4 star record but the faintly uprising change of musical direction doest seem completely sincere but by no means is this a bad record, not when ... Read More:

Well-crafted songs, an expressive voice, wonderful harmonies, thoughtful lyrics and a lightness of touch on this beautiful collection of acoustic-based melodies. Wonderful.

There are a lot of reviews on this album, time and time again Nevermind seems to stretch its fuzzy head and look over, all I can say is ,to me Nevermind has some good tracks and Ten has some brilliant. its impossible to even compare them with each other, a bit like saying Grand Funk Railroad ( early years ) were like the Mahavishnu orchestra. total difference Pearl Jam are a clever group of musicians who write play and express themselves perfectly, the Nevermind crew had a few catchy riffs.

Constructive criticism is one thing, but some of the scathing reviews I have read on here are nothing short of pathetic.

Quite what the hell people expect from Oasis in this day and age is beyond me. After years of relative underachievement, 'DBTT' should be celebrated not berated.

Between the release of 'Supersonic' in 1994 and the enormity of Knebworth in 1996, Oasis were untouchable. Two classic albums, nine fantastic singles (with phenomenal b-sides often topping them), a clutch of era-defining gigs... they weren't a band, they were living legends, and like many teenagers back then, Oasis meant the world to me.

But 'Be Here Now', for all its inspired moments (DYKWIM?, Fade In/Out, Don't Go Away) arguably pushed the formula too far, with a bored/arrogant ... Read More:

I can't really put it better than Betty Clarke's five star review from The Guardian. That a fourth album can be this good is astounding in these times of diminishing returns. Hamilton's vocals have never sounded better drenched as they are by the rest of the band's splashy and reverbed guitars and skittering drums and bass. Slower and more sure footed than previous efforts this moody magnificence continually made the hairs on the back my neck stand to attention. Scarily good.

'My favourite albums ever' contains around 200 albums so don't be suprised that this is up there. Well lets get down to it, it's a stunning album unlike their 3rd there's no filler and just great music. Classics from start to finish and definately the 'phonics album to listen too, if you want to get the feel of them. Trouble is that hardcore phonics fans seem to think they were going off their origional sound with this album. yes they definately are but its a better sound in my opinion In my opinion their other albums aren't so much a deal as this. Buy it now. Then buy 'Just enough education to perform' and then buy Language.sex.violence.other.

If you've had just a passing interest in music over the last 30 years or so, and bought the occasional magazine, chances are you have come across the Fall; chances are, equally, you could not sing or even name a single record here. No matter, it would still be worthwhile laying down the required green and taking a chance on this compilation. If you don't like what you hear then it's no great loss, but it's more than likely that you'll enjoy a good number of these tracks. If you like most of this album then you are just about to fall in love with this band and if you are going to get gooey over a group there's few better candidates.
The Fall have released a studio album every year or so for the last 30 years and don't appear to be about to let up now. More importantly this is not a band whose latter music ... Read More:

I must say i did not expect much when i decided to buy this album. I knew some of the songs (dreams, linger, zombie) from a few years ago, but I never realised the Cranberries had such a collection of great songs. The only misgivings I have are in relation to the lyrics, which sometimes can be a bit weak. If you want an album thats full of melody and has great vocals and understated guitar playing than this is the album to buy.
