In an entertainment business full of faked stance and faux emotion, all of a sudden something REAL has come along. Glasvegas are tough, rough around the edges but ultimately this is the genuinely most affecting releases not just in 2008 but for many years.

Let's be clear about this, 'Glasvegas' aren't romanticised 'loser' jangle from the bedroom of a semi-detached, this is raw anguish, the sound of souls being shreaded by the dismal reality of life on the streets of the East End of Glasgow. The album covers such topics as gang violence, disfunctional families and perhaps most of all the utter desperation of the poverty trap and the yearning for a better life.

If all this sounds a little dreary, like a Ken Loach film ... Read More:

I got this for nothing, fortunately. I can't understand all the comparisons with Scott Walker. Yes, there is an orchestra involved and the arrangements are very full and reminiscent of the sixties but the voice!!! Aargh! It's horrible. And the lyrics are pathetic. Overrated, overstated, overblown. It gets two stars for the very good musicianship and interesting arrangements. But that voice...

Obviously Love is Noise is a great track, certainly the most obvious choice for a single, their stunning live performance of it at Glastonbury was certainly a testament to its energetic, crowd pleasing potential. However, if I had to take a pick of the bunch, I would go for Appalachian Springs and Sit & Wonder as being my favourites, closely followed by Valium Skies and Judas - each one equally as detailed and soulful as the next.

So that's 5 tracks that instantly grabbed my attention upon first listen!!! - and you know what? - that's FIVE more tracks than any other album I've heard this year, or for the last 5 years in fact, so for that reason alone, 5 stars is well deserved.

Overall the detail in each composition is excellent, ... Read More:

After hearing A-Punk what sane music lover couldn't want this album?

But with few tracks being as fun or catchy I was slightly disappointed. The album failed to make me bop continuously for the 34.2 minutes like i was expecting instead bringing out a slightly less catchy side. It's still listenable... Just not as listenable as I wanted it to be.

I'd give it a 7/10 in all.

What a great album! By far and away their best, before they succumbed to Coldplay-type anthems on Seldom Seen Kid. Every track a winner, but "Very best" is well titled. Enjoy! Anyone that can get Stockport Supporters Club into the lyrics of a ballad is alright by me!!

OK I love Silent Alarm as well. It's one of my all time favourite albums and It gets a run out on the iPod at least once a week. Having said that, bands need to evolve and the fans need to evolve with them. Intimacy is the perfect blend of old and new Bloc Party. Classic BP tracks like "One Month Off" and "Ares" are mixed in with tracks such as "Mercury" and "Biko" that reach almost electronica levels. The combination of old and new means this is, by far my favourite Bloc Party album so far. Ion Square is a 6 minute masterpiece and would be worth the money on it's own. Please get past the Silent Alarm hang-ups and give this superb album a play - it will not let you down.

This is a fantastic double CD set. All the hits and an excellent disc 2 of other songs. And the box set is rather snazzy.

The track listing shown here on Amazon and virtually everywhere else is inaccurate. The first CD of this set has exactly the same listing as the single CD of Decade In The Sun so no one is getting shortchanged. It has 20 tracks kicking off with Dakota and ending with Handbags and Gladrags - exactly the same as the single CD album.

The second disc contains a host of other great tracks.

If you're a Stereophonics and thinking about getting this double CD set, buy it.

As a hugh Ryan/Whiskeytown fan since the beginings this new full length release makes me want to shed tears of disbelief. This is surely a demo album of poor unreleased FILLER tracks ? I cannot believe that this is the same Ryan Adams that has written so many classics in the past. His writing has become mundane and formulatic and has lost it's power to make you feel happy and sad in one fell swoop. Even after several listens this is not sticking to my memory like most albums Ryan has made (bar Rock n roll). The guy wants to get out more and feel the vibe from his fans.

All in all this was decent to listen to. I loved Avril Lavigne's cover of The Scientist (although some bits were out of tune) and plenty more good listening from this double album. good choice opening with the foos!

recommended!

If, like me, you're one of those people who was blown away by Felt Mountain but disappointed by what came after then Seventh Tree may give you cause to rejoice.

Although a very different beast to FM this album shares the same quirky, sensual and exotic oddness as Goldfrapp's remarkable debut. The main difference between the two is mood - FM was frequently quite dark (and in the case of Deer Stop, downright creepy) but Seventh Tree is a long summer's day to Felt Moutain's eerie twilight.

Goldfrapp obviously don't mind annoying their fans - having thoroughly cheesed-off many Felt Moutain lovers (including me) by going off in a wildly differnt direction for their next two albums they've now annoyed some of the fans of those albums by abandoning the dance-orientated ... Read More:
