This deliciously packaged fourth album from the fantastic TV On The Radio is a real gem. Following on from their 2006 album Return to Cookie Mountain, the album has a distinctly different feel. Where RtCM played with expansive sounds and interesting rhythms, `Dear Science' has a more refined and cleaner sound. Don't worry, their delightful percussion is still there, just less pronounced, making room for a large use of sax and brass, and as such the tracks on Dear Science have a fuller sound when compared to their previous album. I was already slightly familiar with 'Golden Age' having heard it on the radio a few times, and I'd heard Family Tree once, but these songs are only the tip of the iceberg when you listen to the whole album. ... I bought this album because I really like the track 'Mr Brightside' which is excellent and easily the best thing on the album. Some of the others are ok but I couldn't listen to this from start to finish as it would annoy me intensely. The reason I'm not that fond of it is because I often struggle to see a lot in mainstream pop music generally - it all seems to have either been done before or just doesn't mean anything to me I'm afraid! I appreciate that the band have been immensely successful and I would imagine that if you saw them live it would be a great performance. Not really my kind of thing on a CD though.

For Emma just creeps up on you and invades your existence but in the most wondrous way. Had an awful long drive home one evening in the pitch darkness and listened to it properly. It's like having your best in friend in the car with you. When it finished I just put it back on again. Very wintry, isolated, atmospheric and lovely. Creature Fear and Lump Sum are brilliant. Lets not mess about all the songs are superb. And then of course there is "Re. Stacks" - the song of the year. Quite where Justin Vernon goes next I don't know but I do care a lot.

I had never heard of these but my boyfriend put this onto my ipod. I just could not stop laughing. "Can someone please remove these cutleries from my knees?" I laughed out loud on the tube.

Elbow have written and performed some of the best music this century (IMO). Beautiful ballads & catchy tunes, Favourite Tracks: Fugitive Motel & Grace Under Pressure

Friendly Fires has to be one of the albums of the year. It's not been a great year for fresh stuff. Just roll out dreary old Oasis with the same old same old and then FF appear. It's not anything new but it is exciting for today. You can see that they love what they do. There are not any poor songs on the album so I'll have to discuss the outstanding ones. How about "Paris"? Forward thinking, future going to be great fun stuff! "On Board" fun. Right, forget all this reviewing stuff!! They are great songs that you will want to sing and dance to. End of! Go on, buy it!

I once saw an interview where Chad Kroeger said he asked fans what made How You Remind Me work. People said the chorus, the catchy riffs etc. So basically that's what the man cares about which disheartens me. I bought The Long Road and I really like Someday, but on every album they make 3 or 4 singles and the rest appears to be just filler, something to pad it out to called it an album. Hopefully Nickelback realise their sell out status and make music for the right reasons, as the album title misleads.

I feel that the album is actually better overall than the single - tho can only be pleased that the single brought attention. It is a considerable accolade to say that the sound reminds me of one of the best indie bands for many years - Neutral Milk Hotel.

As someone who had managed to avoid Zero Seven and Sia until now, this is a revelation. Intrigued by a stunning performance on Jools Holland's "Later", I decided to gamble on the album. A worthwhile gamble? Oh,yes! What we have here is a real singer, with passion and power combined with quirky rhythms and lovely melodies, sometimes jaunty, sometimes offbeat, but often heartbreaking. Reference points? Kate Bush for sure- but she's no imitation. her yearning, emotional vocals sometimes bring the Pretenders to mind- but then, when you listen to her version of "I go to Sleep",included here,all you hear is Sia.
