Classic riff tastic Kreator fodder. There's some properly heavy stuff going on in this album, serious riffing, and by god Mille's voice even sounds great. Violent Revolution was a lovely little tempter, giving us the hope that Kreator were returning to Coma/Extreme days. Well here it is my heavy metal hamsters, back to the glory days.
There are some very melodic pieces in this album, but it just enhances the heaviness. Murder Fantasies is not one of my wife's favourite songs....we were lying in a hotel room in Amsterdam late at night, I was listening to this on my headphones, and all my wife could hear in the darkness was the constant mantra, "I want to kill you, I want to kill you, I want to kill you."
It took her a while to see ... Read More:

A brilliant album, Shihad's finest so far...

After getting hold of this album a few years back (with much effort in the UK) I was really dissapointed with the new album under the name change - "pacifier".
Now, thankfully they're back as Shihad, the name they built up from nothing to the likes of the songs on this riproarer of an album.

Opening with a sledgehammer punky metal riff after a drawn out hum, "my minds sedate" is not something I'd recommend for loading your cd player's alarm clock with, but it sure as hell snaps you into the mode for the rest of the album. Songs like "the metal song" that say alot about the world they observe and the music industry.. "wait and see" "only time" "sport and relgion" with catchy ... Read More:

This album is at last a return to the sound they had in Wisconsin. The guitar is the dominant sound throughout the album, with an incredible furious blast from all the songs. My personal favourite has to be Skinnyman, with it's haunting and melodic sound. The heaviest? Has to be I'm the one.

I really love this band. I just don't understand them. Superficially the strong fascist-chic appearance might put those with no sense of adventure off, but its worth entering the strange world of Laibach.

Whatever the first impression of their songs may be it is always tempered with the knowledge of the terrible recent history of Slovenia. NATO begins with a thundering, ominous Mars, God of War from Holst's Planets Suite, but naturally with a techno rhythm. Edwin Starr's War! follows, barely recognisable with its choral embellishments. The Final Countdown, such a cheesy song originally, has a completely different feel and really works. Status Quo? Wow! Every track on this is surprising, interesting, joyful, musical, thought ... This CD would not play on my player, due to the heavy DRM - seemed to work intermittently on a different, brand new CD player, but not my 10 year old Arcam, my main player. Complained to record label who did not even reply to me. Strangely the bonus disc played fine!

filter bloke ex nine inch nails and stuff who cares?
look at this album on its own merits!
and there are plenty of those the vocal performance for me is the stand out as this is i feel the best that richard patrick has sounded his voice soars and roars in equal measures and the music is very slick and exceptionally varied in style and tempo and thankfully is very rarely dull
they manage to mix industrial metal with big stadium rock melodies and hooks that keep you humming them for days
but on the downside the lyrics are truly terrible and sound like they have been written using a rhyming dictionary
and the music suffers because it has lost some of its bite and some of the individuality that set filter apart and they have started ... Read More:

108.Violent Silence by: Marc Almond
September 15, 1997
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

>>More Details
Music : Violent Silence
This album encapsulates such a wide number of musical genres and concepts while focussing on one theme (sin) in particular. The effect is that while your creative side is transported to all sorts of soundscapes, your analytical mind is constantly mulling over the main theme.

This CD can be put on simply as background music, for which it would be fine, but its true strengths are only revealed through proper listening, preferably through a good pair of headphones.

For me the highlight would have to be "Gerald and Me", the eclectic hidden track at the end. However, the whole of this album stands up to repeated listening. Well done Mr Almond!

In many ways the new Godflesh album "Hymns" is a return to basics. Instead of the multiple samples and loops its predecessor "Us and Them", "Hymns" is basically guitar, bass and drums playing as hard as they possibly can. Although I'm a big fan of their previous drum machine sound, I must say that Ted Parsons does a great job on the skins, complementing the incredibly tight playing of Broadrick and Green. As usual for a GF album, its style varies a lot between slow and introspective to quick and trashy. All in all one never loses the sense of continuity during the record, and I can only hope that this release will see this great and seminal band extend its fan base to accomodate all those who haven't yet seen the light and still doodle ... At last, Sensoria on CD....and it's the 12" version. Before 1988, when House music dominated the club scene, The Hacienda club in Manchester used to play an eclectic mix of music on Saturday nights. Sensoria was one of those tunes.

I've had most of their vinyl for years, but at last I now have the convenience of some of their best on CD.
