this album is so far removed from the pitchshifter of today that its hard to believe that they are the same band.
this is a much more metal sounding version of the thumping industrial that they create with a sound more akin to latter day killing joke.
depending on if you like killing joke could influence whether or not you will like this album.
personally i think its a great part of the bands history to see where they had been and it starts to hint at where they are planning on going.
the songs are big and ugly and alot heavier that the rest of their output.
the political influence is creeping into alot of the lyrics and the electronica is also creeping in but the backbone of most of the songs is the huge sloppy ... Read More:

Well, the question is, are you a Sevendust fan? And if you are taking the time and trouble to read this you must be halfway interested in the band already, so there you go. This CD/DVD/Photo set is worth every penny if you like the band, although i would'nt say this is the best starting point for a new fan. If you are new to the band I would be inclined to go with the crowd on this and advise you check out either their most recent album 'Next'or 2000's 'Home' both being ample representations of the band's wicked grooves.

Before hearing it, this boxset seemed like it could be a daunting prospect, I'd heared 'Angel's Son' and loved it, but I mean, could a band as heavy musically as Sevendust pull off a whole acoustic set? Is there any reason ... Read More:

This album is exactly what it says it is. Not a complete album in the ordinary sense, but a collection of b-sides, remixes, live recordings, and random things she recorded on a whim on a kitchen floor. Many of the songs are low quality due to the way they were recorded (not in a recording studio, put it that way). There are no songs here in the 'Opheliac' style.

Many songs sound like cut songs from 'Enchant' and there are two remixes from the 'Enchant' album. She has done a universally terrible remix of Chambermaid (something she confirms in the notes herself) which sounds like a complete mess, and it opens the album. The second song and the second remix is a rather sweeter version than the original 'What If' with a celtic edge and it appears ... Read More:

Music : Pure
Mocked by most due to their decision to utilise a drum machine ("A drum machine?! In metal?!") which was, at the time, frankly considered lunacy by a metal press which hadn't yet heard of samples and had roundly taken the piss out of Iron Maiden for using synthesisers on 'Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son', Godflesh were a bold experiment in individuality when they first appeared on the scene with the release of 'Streetcleaner'.

This album is the undoubted high point of their career, and showcases their brand of Swans-inspired, melancholy dirges extremely well. Far from making them sound 'poppy', the mechanical nature of the drum machine actually enhances their heaviness, providing them with much more of an industrial sound than they could ever have gotten ... Whilst going through some of my old albums, I chanced across this 1997 debut effort from LA band Coal Chamber. Lumpen, insipid nu-metal of the very worst variety. It's been 11 years since this album was released, and time hasn't done it any favours. Songs such as Bradley, Big Truck and Clock have such obvious, dumb riffs that would have felt dated at the time, and sound so dull now. Amir of the Desert, has to be just about the biggest waste of 45 seconds recording time ever. Compared to other contemporary albums released around the same time that still sound fresh (Deftones' Around the Fur, SoaD's debut), Coal Chamber's debut sounds very tame in comparison. Dez Fafara, now fronting DevilDriver is well shot of this musical car crash.

Music : Body Exit Mind
This is a great album from a much overlooked band. If you like Happy Mondays/Black Grape etc then you'll like this. In fact, if you ask me this band beat the wotsit out of the Happy Mondays.
This album is worth owning for 'Bong' alone let alone the other tracks. There are a few weaker tracks on there so I knocked a star off but the good tracks are really good.
I don't know what happened to this band but I guess they were not seen to fit into the grunge or Britpop camps so were neglected. I saw them live at the Phoenix Festival in 93 and they were really good. They were infectiously groovy and really tight - the drummer and bongoes player combo has never been more successful if you ask me.
Its a shame that good bands like this dont always get ... Read More:
